NBA 2008-09 Season

That's who I've wanted in Cleveland for a few months. I DO NOT want to see him go to the C's.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind Camby.

What do you think of the Tyson Chandler to the Thunder trade? I don't know the details of Chandler's current contract, but it seems like New Orleans gave him up for next to nothing. (An expiring contract in Chris Wilcox and an aging Joe Smith). Surely New Orleans would've been willing to consider our expiring contract in Wally Z for that same deal, right?

I was surprised they made the trade. They're still in the heart of that playoff mix and had high expectations going into this year. There's no doubt it was about money (even though the team denied it), but I think they wanted a big man in return to remain competitive. Unfortunetly, that ruled that Cavs and Wally out.

I don't know if that would be a good idea for the Cavs. He's owed a ton of money ($50 million over the next 3 years I think) and he's aging...I don't know Dan Gilbert's personal finances, but I'd be willing to bet Quicken Loans has hit quite a dry spell. I wouldn't want Jamison's contract to interfere with potential max deals going to Lebron and another stud in 2010.

You're right.

Jamison just signed a 4-year $50 million contract extension last year!

Alvin Adams
Was Unseld (6'5") and Elvin Hayes (6'9") alternated between center and forward
I don't think Clifford Ray was very tall.
Bob McAdoo.

Cowens fared better against the taller centers, since the referees let him mug them. He more often got into foul trouble when guarding smaller centers.

Mc Adoo was 6'10" I believe. More importantly he was a center who thought he was a small forward.

Ben Wallace Injured

Speaking of big guys with small brains.......

Brian Windhorst reported this afternoon that Cavaliers’ forward Ben Wallace is traveling with the team, but is listed as questionable after receiving 14 stitches in his forearm. Wait a minute. The Cavs didn’t play last night, how in the world did Ben Wallace get a cut that bad? Oh, he was “catching a football”. Really?
Wallace was injured while playing catch with a football in Richmond, Va. and received stitches there. He returned to Cleveland on Monday and was treated this morning at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health for removal of additional glass pieces from his arm.

Detroit loses again.

Their window of opportunity is slamming shut, and that Iverson trade is looking more and more like a team-crippling decision.

They have lost more games now than all of last year.

When one considers that Detroit had a stretch of great basketball with only one championship and a string of playoff chokejobs- especially against Miami and Cleveland in back-to-back East Finals- they are, as I said in June, basketball's version of the Atlanta Braves- one title, but still one of the most underachieving teams in NBA history!

6 trips to the Eastern conference finals. Under achieving at it's finest. I'm curious, what did you think about the Bills when they we're losing 4 straight SB's? Were they choke-jobs? Personally I thought it was quite an achievement to reach the "game" 4 straight years.

Outside of your beloved Spurs, who else has even come close to this kind of consistency in the NBA in the last ten years? BTW it's an odd year (2009), check the Spur's record in years ending in odd numbers.

Do I wish they could have won a couple of more titles? YES. Should they have? YES. If Larry Brown didn't get all "Larry Brown" on us, would we have won more titles? YES.

For the last time - The AI trade was a move made by Dumars with two goals.
#1 - Dumars recognized 2 seasons ago that this team was ending it's run. When this trade became viable he did it to shake up the team. We might have a better record right now with Billups, but the playoffs would still have ended in Boston or Cleveland, both measurably better teams than we are this season.

#2 - Cap space to rebuild this team over the next two seasons. No explanation needed here,

Why did New Orleans trade Tyson Chandler yesterday? I thought he was playing well for them. Well last season he was, not so sure about this season. What are they going to do with Joe Smith? I didn't even know he was still in the league.

This reminds me of a famous quote...

"'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

Back then, players would simply report their height. Hence, Tiny Archibalt and Footsie Walker could both be listed as six feet tall. Bill Walton insisted on being listed as 6'11" even though he was at least two inches taller than that. Darrell Dawkins was really no taller than 6'9", and Unseld was typically listed at 6'8", but claimed a few years ago to have been 6'4-1/2" tall and really looked it when Jack Sikma kept shooting over him in the 1979 Finals. Bob Cousy was a few inches taller than his listed height, but wanted to be percieved as short so he could be marketed as "David" playing against the "Goliaths". The league now measures everyone barefoot.

Someone asked Julius Erving if he found it difficult to play night after night against players who were taller than him, and he replied that most of the other forwards weren't taller, that he listed his actual height whereas most other players exaggerated theirs.

They've been lying about heights forever, and they still are. They may measure them for the draft, but they still lie about them in the media guides. At any rate, what I was really trying to express was why it seems like there aren't as many quality big men in the game like the names we have bandied about previously. It just seems like when ever I think about the best centers in the game, only names from the past surface in my pea-brain. Shaq and Duncan are the only 2 that come to mind right now, and I think Howard can become one of the "greats". But that's only 3 that come to mind, wereas I was able to name at least quite a few more from previous eras , and a lot of them played at the same time. Just spit-balling here. Good post, Antalt.

Going by that, I guess Braves fans can just sit back and rest on their laurels of making 9 trips to the NLCS.

Sure, why not. It's better than having your team go 43-119 (Tigers), or 0-16, isn't it?
The Red Wings have made the playoffs for 17 consecutive seasons now, and have won only a few cups, should I feel happy or disappointed? Maybe they're underachievers also? MICHIGAN football played in 33 straight bowls and only won 1 NC. Underachievers? My point is that it's hard to sustain that level of play, and I would rather have those long term runs than chronic mediocrity. Winning is better than losing. Trust me, I know both extremes, don't I.;)

BTW, you didn't say how you felt about the Bill's losing 4 SB's.

you didn't say how you felt about the Bill's losing 4 SB's.

The first one was the most painful.

The next three were not as painful, because those were out of reach by the fourth quarter and the Bills were facing better teams.

The 1991 Redskins are one of the NFL's most dominant single-season teams ever.

The 1992 and 1993 Cowboys were loaded with talent.

I can't say the same about the 1990 Giants.

Losing to a team you think is inferior to yours is worse than losing to a superior team.

Tyson Chandler is Un-traded Back to the Hornets

Sorry Thunder. You had to know this deal was too good to be true, right?
