NBA 2008-09 Season

Dave Cowens was only 6' 8", but I'd take him as my center any day of the week!

Dude was as tough as they come!

That relates to my point about small centers, in his time, he was the only small center I remember from that era. Everybody had BIG centers. It would be interesting to see Cowen's numbers if he played in this era, instead of against those titans we listed. He certainly held his own, and then some.

He sure did! :up

BTW Paul, Issel was only about 6' 9". But he was more of a perimeter player anyway, so point taken.

Thunder close to acquiring Chandler

Of all the teams to acquire talent before the trade deadline, did anyone expect the Thunder to be among the players?!........

The [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=nor"]New Orleans Hornets News, Schedule, Players, Stats, Video - NBA - ESPN[/ame] and Oklahoma City are closing in on a deal that will send center [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=984"]Tyson Chandler Stats, News, Photos - Charlotte Bobcats - ESPN[/ame] to the Thunder, according to NBA front-office sources.

Two sources with knowledge of the trade parameters told ESPN.com that the deal is likely to be completed later Tuesday.

Although the entirety of the package New Orleans would receive for Chandler was not immediately known, ESPN.com reported early Monday that the Hornets -- who are looking to move Chandler mostly for financial reasons -- were in talks with the Thunder on a trade that would net the expiring contracts of forwards [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=788"]Joe Smith Stats, News, Photos - Atlanta Hawks - ESPN[/ame] and [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1731"]Chris Wilcox Stats, News, Photos - Detroit Pistons - ESPN[/ame].

The Thunder also possess numerous draft picks to sweeten trade packages, including five first-round picks in the next two drafts.

Well, it's official- I can no longer make fun of the Thunder (Durant's All-Star Weekend performances also had something to do with it).

Now, I will move on- Wizards, Kings, and Grizzlies are next!

Actually, I'll get over my ill feelings toward this Wizard in a hurry if this actually happens. And Jamison is the one Wizard that I actually hold high regards for. He's no DeShawn Stevenson. Jamison is a well respected leader and would surely be an awesome fit here in Cleveland.

Thanks Sabres, I'm going to be on pins and needles for the next 24 hours....

Alvin Adams
Was Unseld (6'5") and Elvin Hayes (6'9") alternated between center and forward
I don't think Clifford Ray was very tall.
Bob McAdoo.

Cowens fared better against the taller centers, since the referees let him mug them. He more often got into foul trouble when guarding smaller centers.

Celtics traded Sam Cassell to Sacramento to reportedly clear cap space for a possible trade.

Cassell was still on the Celtics? Who knew? :D

Detroit loses again.

Their window of opportunity is slamming shut, and that Iverson trade is looking more and more like a team-crippling decision.

They have lost more games now than all of last year.

When one considers that Detroit had a stretch of great basketball with only one championship and a string of playoff chokejobs- especially against Miami and Cleveland in back-to-back East Finals- they are, as I said in June, basketball's version of the Atlanta Braves- one title, but still one of the most underachieving teams in NBA history!

Performance of the night belongs to Dwight Howard, who went off for 45 points!

I guess he got over losing the Slam Dunk Contest quicker than I thought.
