NBA 2008-09 Season

Are there any NBA fans on this board? I know Bill was a fan and posted often. Unfortunately he's gone now. Sandra is a fan, but doesn't have much to root for in NY. Calling all NBA fans?! Where are you?.....

(Now that my NFL season is pretty much done and the Buckeyes don't play again until January, I'm lost)

i'm also an NBA fan. by the way i like your new avatar of king james

Sabres, in another thread, you asked me to explain the pre-game routine of LeBron and the smoke in the air ritual...

It's actually a rosin type powder and Kevin Garnett does something similar. LeBron brought a little dramatic flare to it by flinging the rosin in the air and holding his arms widespread.

But if you're looking for some sort of deep meaning to this, there is none. It's just another pre-game ritual that many sports players have.

All that was more or less started by Jordan. I remember when covering the Bulls in the 90s, Jordan would come to the scorers table....grab the baby powder, throw some in his hands and in front of Bulls anouncers Tom Bullwinkle and Johnny "Red" Kerr....he would clap his hands 3 times real hard and powder would fly all over the place. It became a running joke and the equivalent of Harry Carry singing "take me out to the ball game" staple in Chicago.

Knicks send Marbury home after failing to agree on buyout

New York -- [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=509"]Stephon Marbury Stats, News, Photos - Boston Celtics - ESPN[/ame] was told to stay away from the [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=nyk"]New York Knicks News, Schedule, Players, Stats, Video - NBA - ESPN[/ame] until they can determine a way to get rid of him....

If any of you who have followed this story, Marbury has had a serious of issues with new coach, Mike D'Antoni and some fellow Knick teammates.

Problems stem from Marbury being benched. Then refusing to play when called to enter the game. Now, fines and verbal back lashes have ensued.

Not sure why the Iverson "Practice-Gate" story is getting so much attention when the Marbury ordeal is the most distracting story going in the NBA right now!?

I think it is BOTH Marbury and the Knicks fault. 1st they tell him he will more or less not be used AT ALL so basically stay home....THEN, they get a rash of injuries at the guard position AND trade their BEST guard to free cap space in HOPES that LeBron will look their way...and then little bitch because Marbury does not want to play. Marbury is a definate a$$hole, but can you REALLY blame the guy??!!

Think of it this way, you come into work and the director of YOUR department says, "look....we really don't want your services....we think we can do better WITHOUT you here...but since you are here....go home, your not wanted and we'll decide what we are gonna do with you later....." THEN, the carp hits the fan, the department YOU work for falls short for bodies...and then they tell ya, "oh yeah, by the way...since you still work for the company, you HAVE TO come work....."

That my friends, is corporate slavery to me. The team wants it's cake AND eat it too! IF he SO BAD, release him....bite the bullet and let him go. I am sure they have tried to trade him but were MORE than likely asking for the world in hopes some idiot GM will bite.

Know what, I just changed my mind....it IS the Knicks fault. They should have never let this get this far and just released his ass!

Here is a very interesting quote from Marbury and I found it to be quite true:

I sat there for three weeks and didn't say one word," Marbury told The Post. "I didn't hear one of my teammates say, 'Why isn't Stephon Marbury playing? This is a good system for him, even to play with the second unit and bring more firepower.'

"When things got bad and then worse, guys like Quentin Richardson say, 'I don't consider him a teammate. He let his teammates out to dry.' He didn't care I was his teammate when I was banished. They left me out for dead. It's like we're in a foxhole and I'm facing the other way. If I got shot in the head, at least you want to get shot by the enemy. I got shot in the head by my own guys in my foxhole. And they didn't even give me an honorable death."

Nope. Your wrong in your comparison. The big difference is that the Knicks were still paying him regardless whether he played or sat on the bench. Marbaby is getting paid a salary of $21 million dollars! If I was getting paid that much, I would at least be expected to follow simple orders.

REALLY??!!

So what YOU are saying is IF the Knicks basically TOLD YOU you are no longer part of our plans and you are more or less useless and the ONLY reason we have you here is because we cannot trade you....you would follow orders like a good little boy and even hop when they say jump??!!

Mind you, it's not like YOUR JOB now where if you don't like it....you can either quit or find a new job...

Um, hell yes! If my Boss paid me $21 million dollars to sit the bench, absolutely, I would!

If he later changed his mind and decided he had something for me to do, then I would comply.

As long as I'm cashing the owners checks, I would do as I'm told.

The problem with these guys and especially with the Marbury's of the world is that they let their ego's get in the way. He can't stand that he's not on the court playing with the rest of the guys, even though he can't seem to understand his attitude and his me-first attitude on the court is the thing holding him back in the first place.

So, his teammates criticize his insubordination and now THEY'RE the bad guys?! Come on! Marbaby's always the victim, huh? You know what, he's now officially my least, well 2nd least favorite player in the NBA. (Least favorite is Rasheed Wallace).

Only looking at it one sided. Open up a bit.

I love how people have NO ISSUES taking ownership side when THEY are the ones holding your city hostage for a new stadium, regardless of the sport. For every player people moan and bitch about how much THEY make, ownership is making TEN TIMES that amount AND CRY POVERTY....but the player is ALWAYS the bad guy.

Read it again, he his simply stating....when the team said that he was basically DEAD TO THE TEAM....where was the supposed teammates questioning management about this decision to 'suspend' Marbury, considering the situation the team was in. The team ONLY wanted to acknowledge his existance when they were STUPID enough to trade their other guards and injuries set in. The didn't give a ratz a$$ when everything was hunk dory.....

NO player wants to sit the bench....you got that......NONE. They want to EARN their keep...yeah attitude kills alot of players...but NO PLAYER wants to sit on the bench.

He wants to play.....IF you don't want him, trade him or release him....PERIOD!!
This is THE KNICKS FAULT for letting it get this bad.

At least the Red Sox were SMART ENOUGH to not asking for the moon...and THIS is the reason the Knicks brass will be a dead franchise. They cannot even see that ADDITION BY SUBTRACTION is the best bet here....but their greed has let this fester....and made things worse.

I did look at it from both sides actually. Kind of ironic you say that though since you're always the one to take the players side of the argument. (See Manny-Gate, Iverson-Gate and now Marbury-Gate).

Management has the upper hand since they're the ones paying him a very hefty salary. They're not asking him to do anything extra. They're actually asking him to do less! How is him having a hissy fit and not playing managements fault?

I understand that and I have no issue with that. That I can respect. This isn't the issue I have. It's him being a little B* by holding a grudge when called upon.

That's the problem, no one in their right mind would take on his giant $21 million contract. But, bottom line, that is for the Knicks front office to decide whether or not to release him. They hold the right to his contract. As long as he's getting paid, he should comply when called upon.

And I agree the Knicks front office have made some past questionable decisions. The disorganization should be reason enough why an LBJ would never come to the Garden.

I agree. If he wants to play so bad, trade his ass to a team like the OKC Thunder for a bag of balls, and assume the whole contract because you'll probably have to eat the money anyway. And, don't expect him to be a role model for Kevin Durant. ;)

In regard to the 1st statement, I try to refuse to EVER take management side because they are even MORE crooked than any player or agent will ever be.

I am surprised YOU would even take management side considering what Modell did to the Brown fans and the city of Cleveland.

In regards to the Marbury issue, they SAW and KNEW things were getting worse and they made matters go even WORSE than ever by basically telling Marbury to sit down, shut up and talk when we talk to you. ALL that could have been avoided if they had released him or make a reasonable trade offer....See the T.O. out of Philadelphia(release) and the Manny trade out of Boston(trade) as a PERFECT EXAMPLES.

EXACTLY!!! That is why teams(OWNERS....!!!!) get no where because they wanna be greedy.
