Nascar 2009

Congrats Mark Martin,

I've been a Mark Martin fan since his ASA days here in WOdc.

Saturday nights race is the perfect example of why I'm a fan.

That race was close to being "old school" as I've seen in quite a while.

Racing all over the track, passing, strategy, anger, mash the gas and forget about the brake "I'm comin through get out of the way" racing.

Who'd ever thought we'd see a COT cup car look like the David Ragan's #6 did when he came back out on the track. They even used tape to put the number on the drivers door.

I watched the race on the DVR yesterday afternoon. I think it was the first 500 mile race I've watched that didn't include a NASCAR nap.

Good job NASCAR and FOX. FOX had the best race broadcast of the season as far as I'm concerned. Mike Joy was great! Larry and Darryl too! Very little digger, Again throwing the pre-race to SPEED was a good move, showing back of the pack racing, covering all of the incidents the only problem remains Chris Myers.

Why they continue using him is beyond me. I'm NOT kidding because I care!

Thanks for that. I'm going to assume this wasn't steroids for obvious reasons, so that leaves the obvious other choices. Now that's scary. I wouldn't want to be on the track with somebody "under the influence" of who knows what. 200 MPH inches away from somebody that isn't in a normal state of being.

That's for sure.

It's pretty sad. He started his own team right before Daytona and was trying to make a go of it. His team may still be in operation but who knows for how long now.

Mayfield's press release stated that it was a combination of over the counter medications that caused the two positive tests. Dr. Black the director of testing for NASCAR said he's never seen any combination of OTC drugs produce the particular result that Mayfield's tests produced.

I don't buy Mayfield's story one bit.

I don't know the particulars of NASCARS policy however, in our company, everytime I am prescribed a new medication I notify our Safety Director to include that in my testing file. We are not required to notify him of any OTC meds. However at the time of testing we are told to list ALL medications taken in the last 72 hours.

Every employee of every team down to the exhaust pipe stretchers knows they could be tested at anytime. Same as me at my company. I never know when. It's completely random, I've been tested 4 times in a month already. It's all the luck of the draw.

In the NASCAR news conference they immediately and categorically dismissed alchohol as the substance.

I don't know what drugs, catagories, or combinations they screen for, but they did say Claritan (sp) was one that would show up. So, I f carl Edwards takes some of one of his sponsers produtcs?????????????????

That question was asked of Dr. Black in an interview this afternoon on Sirius NASCAR radio.

He did say that an ingredient in Claritin COULD produce a positive result if a large enough portion of the ingredient was taken alone.

The amount in Claritin is extremely small and and could not have affected the results of a drug screen. To take enough Claritin to effect the test he would have been extremely sick from the amount taken and would have had more problems than a positive drug screen.

If you eat alot of lemon poppy seed muffins one morning and then tested would it be positive? If you ate that many muffins I think you'd be pretty sick.

Munchies are a terrible thing.....

ALSO:

NASCAR was the big winner in prime time Saturday and drove Fox to the top.
The Southern 500 at Darlington, S.C., averaged 6.5 million viewers in prime time on Fox, according to preliminary ratings released this afternoon. Mark Martin won the race. We'll have updated ratings early next week.
Here's how the other broadcast networks fared: CBS with 5.2 million, ABC with 4.5 million and NBC with 4.1 million.
Fox also won the 18-to-49 age group, outpacing ABC.

Why do I get the feeling that I won't find many Dale Jr. fans to bet with next year. Jr. is having a bad year for sure and I don't see him making the top 10

Jr. is having a horrible year...

It's really funny to watch for me. When he left DEI I told a few of his fans that he still wouldn't win a championship. They laughed at me. And a few bet with me. I don't think I will find many to bet with me next year. Dale Jr. just doesn't have the talent to win the big prize.

Bets and ratings...........Thats all you have to offer................
