If one was selling tickets for a fraction of the price and a fraction of the games, one would expect that one to do a little better

cosmo_kramer said:Not only that, what if some or all of the top hockey markets that are currently at or above capacity could magically increase the number of seats in their arenas?? I'm sure that would increase the number of tickets sold, and at least would put them closer to capacity with the MLS teams that play at larger stadiums. Then you would be talking about an apples-to-apples comparison...

Meanwhile, the NHL experienced a 66 percent decrease in average attendance with 20 of the league’s 30 teams posting lower attendance numbers in 2009-10 than 2008-09.
High ticket prices and lots of games? Yes.I can agree with that. Can you agree then that one of reasons baseball has lost some luster is for the same reasons?

Maybe in TV rating, but not so much in attendance. Now, it seems that they are getting their act together on the TV side.

Here is a genius statement from Ms. Ortiz that salsadancer quoted on the first page:
That's the quote verbatim. Makes it sound like the league is down 66 percent in overall attendance, right? But, of course, it's not.
This is how you manipulate things to prove your agenda.
Sandra
That was the way I read it as well. After you pointed it out, what the 66% really means is that 66% of the teams have decreased in their average attendance. The key thing, what she failed to mention, is how much of a decrease did these 20 teams experience? Is this decrease more significant than the increase in attendance of some of the remaining 10 teams? The NHL can still have a decrease in attendance of 66% of their teams and still have an increase in overall attendance league wideHere is a genius statement from Ms. Ortiz that salsadancer quoted on the first page:

Please list a link/s that states otherwise. I mean it's easy to disagree or agree when it's your opinion, but if you are stating this as fact, please provide a source or sources stating otherwise.

The NHL is not down 2/3 in attendance from last year. That's just a stupid statement.
Sandra
AGAIN, you are saying it's stupid and untrue....post some information stating other wise....
I totally understood what Dodger stated.
Good then you realize the NHL was not down 66% in overall attendance from last year, as Ms. Ortiz stated. Glad we cleared that up.
Sandra
Maybe she mistated and ment to say, as I read, the attendance was down in 66% of the league. WHY do you assume there is an "agenda"?
With regard to ratings, MLS also is making a surge. The league’s televised 2011 opener between the Galaxy and Sounders on ESPN was up 129 percent in ratings and 112 percent in viewership, drawing 604,000 English-language viewers. The game’s Spanish-language broadcast on ESPN Deportes drew another 79,000 viewers, an increase of 84 percent from a year ago.
Those TV viewer numbers rival – or surpass – those of almost every nationally televised NHL game this year on Versus. And no league can come close to boasting that kind of jump in viewership.
I'm going by what she actually SAID, not what you can claim she meant to say.
