MLB 2013 Season

Former MLB pitcher Frank Castillo's body was recovered from a lake in Arizona Monday afternoon. Castillo pitched for six teams during 13 ML seasons. Castillo pitched for the Red Sox in 2001-02 and again briefly in 2004. He had a decent season as the Sox 5th starter in 2001, going 10-9.

RIP Frank

The Reds lose yet another one run game and Chapman is beginning to frustrate me. Mike Leake pitched yet another great game. He has been their best pitcher this year.

Again the Reds lose another 2-1 game. They can't score against a pitcher who has an ERA in the high 4's and walked five in six innings. Reds have wasted a lot of good pitching this year. Leake has been a big surprise. I saw him pitch in DC earlier this year and he was terrible. Right after that he made a big turnaround. Never would have thought he would have been their most consistent starter this season.

Chapman almost blew the save in the Thursday game against the Dodgers as well. The last out was a good running catch on a line drive hit by Crawford.

RIP Boomer!! For the most part he batted 7th on those powerful '77/'78 Red Sox teams.

2B- Remy
SS- Burleson
CF-Lynn
LF- Rice
DH- Yaz
C- Fisk
1B- Scott
RF- Evans
3B- Hobson (one year he had 30 HR's and 100 RBI's in the 9 hole)

Man, this lineup brings back fond memories as a kid growing up!

Scott had 33 homers and Hobson 30 batting in the lower third of the order in 1977, and the Red Sox led the league with 213 home runs and were second in runs scored with 859, yet they somehow were shut out EIGHT times that season, and in 1979, when they led the league un homers again, they were shut out TEN times.

Scott used to complain that a superstar like him should be batting higher than seventh, but which Hall-of-Famer/MVP should he have been hitting ahead of?

The problem was none of them were exactly David Ortiz. The clutch hits were few and far between, especially from Jim Rice. If they measured greatness by when the score was 10-2, Rice would be the greatest hitter of all time. IMO, Dewey Evans was the best hitter they had in the clutch back then, but even that came later in his career (early-mid 80's).

You could argue Boomer should have been hitting 8th or 9th.

Boomer chasing Martinez is right up there with Nolan Ryan pummeling Ventura and Van Gundy hanging onto Mourning's ankle as the three most entertaining sports brawls I've ever seen..

I apologize for the off-topic nature of this post, but I had to add this footage as one my favorite sports brawls...

The details on this memory is admittedly a little more fuzzy, but I seem to recall a late night Red Sox-Mariners brawl when a Red Sox pitcher (Dick Drago perhaps?) beaned the Mariners Willie Horton. It was very similar to the Scott-Martinez scenario, with the huge Horton chasing down his prey.

Red hot Dodgers continue to win.
Beats the Yanks in walkoff style 3-2
