I haven't been followiong this Puig thing, except here, but I see that his run production, if extrapolated to 162 games, would only be 106 runs scored and 113 RBI, which is nice, and most years in the top ten, but how can he produce that little with a .427 batting average?
Does he bat leadoff or second in the lineup? That could be it.
Because he bats 1 and 2 in the lineup. He doesn't have many RBI opportunities, especially in the NL batting after the pitcher. Even more important is that most of those RBIs are clutch. Most of them tied or gave them the lead.I haven't been followiong this Puig thing, except here, but I see that his run production, if extrapolated to 162 games, would only be 106 runs scored and 113 RBI, which is nice, and most years in the top ten, but how can he produce that little with a .427 batting average?
He is very agressive. He will eventually be put into the middle of the lineup. He is a #3 or #4 type hitter, not a #1 and #2 type hitter.I went back and looked at some of his games. Looks like he has been batting 1st or 2nd most games. Not usually many RBI opportunities hitting in that spot. He's been great to this point. The one thing he hasn't done much is walk. Only three times in 23 games. That could be an issue as time goes along.
This would be a good trade for the pirates.

He would be great for the Pirates. Imagine Marte, McCutchen and Stanton in the same outfield.

AND in the toughest division in baseball. The division amazes me sometimes. IF the Blue Jays win tomorrow, everyone in the division is AT LEAST playing .500 ball.
And since we are talking baseball, some of the rookies for the Marlins are playing better. They are not beating themselves...the teams they are losing to are just much better.
And like I was saying way back in spring training, come mid-season, the Red Sox two most dependable starters will be John Lackey and Alfredo Aceves.
It is remarkable that the Red Sox have won about 57% of their games with the team that they have, but if Lester isn't gong to find ha control and Buchholz is gong to miss half his starts and if thee Red Sox settle into a closer by committee of people who aren't even locks to keep their jobs of middle reliever or mop-up, they could easily lose 60% of their renaming games and wind up in last place, as many predicted at the start of the season
Go Pirates. Reds are really sucking the last week and now they have to play the Rangers starting Friday @ Arlington. Ugh!
Didnt the Reds get swept last week? I think your Reds will do fine. Look at it this way. Process of elimination. The Brewers and the Cubs are out which leaves the Reds, Cardinals and Pirates. One thing that amazes me is how good the Cardinals are. I mean they lose Pujols, La Russa, Duncan and they haven't skipped a beat. They constantly have guys that they trade for or come up from the minors who do very well. Its incredible.
Pitching wins games. And both the Rangers and Cardinals have great pitchers.
Red Sox fifth starter Doubront has now given up three or fewer runs in each of his nine most recent starts: 3 runs twice, 2 runs five times and one and zero runs in the other two. His ERA in those games is under 3.00 but his record in them is only 1-2. Whatever pitching deficiencies the Red Sox might have, fifth starter isn't one of them.
Fourth starter Dempster has given up three or fewer runs and pitched six or more innings in each of his last six starts, sporting an ERA of just under 3.4 for that stretch. Not Cy Young contender stuff, but nice for a fourth starter.
So this must make you look to the Bullpen as the culprit, much like the Tigers, if they get the pen taken care of, they will win alot more games.
