MLB 2013 Season

Luke Scott, can you belive his name is linked to that !

Whoda thunk.

And what is most amazing is that even though Luke Scott hit over .330 in about 250 plate appearances that year, he didn't get a single vote for Rookie of the Year. That is because each voter picks a first, second, and third place candidate, and four of the candidates had really strong first years and garnered nearly all the votes. In fact, Prince Fielder finished seventh in spite of hitting 28 homers and driving in 81 runs that year.

Tony Oliva got 19 out of 20 votes. Wally Bunker, a Baltimore Oriole's starting pitcher who went 19-5, got the other vote. Back then, the voters only selected one player each. For eight years, Oliva was as good as any player in the American League, but he has a severe leg injury that cost him all but ten games in 1972, and he would have had to retire except that the American League adopted the designated hitter rule in 1973, so Oliva hung on for four more years but was too beat up to even be an effective DH. Don't be surprised if, some day, one of those Hall of Fame, Old Timer ccmmittees lets him in.

Good thing Scott did as well as he did back in '06, he hasn't come within 50 points of that avg. since.

The Blue Jays won their 11th straight today. The current AL East standings shows every team over .500......the current standings:

Boston.........45-33...........-
Baltimore.....42-34...........2
New York.....41-34...........2.5
Toronto.......38-36............5
Tampa Bay..39-37............5

Every team has flaws, but there are no pushovers. ANYONE can win this division.

It is remarkable that the Red Sox have won about 57% of their games with the team that they have, but if Lester isn't gong to find ha control and Buchholz is gong to miss half his starts and if thee Red Sox settle into a closer by committee of people who aren't even locks to keep their jobs of middle reliever or mop-up, they could easily lose 60% of their renaming games and wind up in last place, as many predicted at the start of the season

The Reds had a perfect chance to catch up a couple of games this weekend and blew it. They caught up one game and it should have been 2.

The Red Sox have demoted 3B Will Middlebrooks to AAA Pawtucket, allowing Jose Iglesias to become the everyday 3B....

And the funny thing is neither projects to be the Red Sox 3B of the future. That honor belongs to top prospect, Xander Bogaerts. Iglesias will be the SS (and a very good one), and if Middlebrooks isn't traded he could end up at 1B.

ESPN reporting that Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira will undergo season-ending wrist surgery

That's $22.5 million paid for nothing, on top of $14 million so far paid to A-Roid for nothing, plus $9 million paid to Jeter for nothing, plus they have a $20 million a year pitcher on the shelf. Does anyone feel sorry for them yet?

Sorry for them ?

No, they are no different than any other top team with injuries.

Go Pirates. Reds are really sucking the last week and now they have to play the Rangers starting Friday @ Arlington. Ugh!
