MLB 2013 Season

Ortiz hit his second triple of the MONTH today. The last time he hit two triples in a season was in 2006. That is coming on top of his having stolen third base twice last month, after having stolen only two bases in total since 2007. Has he found a new drug?

A drug that would make him run faster ?
Thats like asking Prince Fielder to suddenly be able to run faster...

The Yankees have hit .197 over their last seven games, with just one home run. That is their lowest batting average over any seven game stretch in 23 years. And now, Youkilis is back on the DL. Hey! Wait a minute! Having Youkilis back on the DL will bring up ther team batting average.

Were these 7 games on the road ?

Three in Seattle, three in Oakland, and one in wherever the Angels's stadium is.

Last two teams the pirates played, Dodgers and Giants, they face four cy young winners, they beat three and lost to one.

Reds win 2 out of 3 from Milwaukee. Sucks being in the best division in baseball. .600 winning percentage and second place.
They would be first in any other division.

Many are picking the Dodgers and Angels.

The Angels starting pitching is not all that good and the Dodgers offense may not play up to their potential.

Good pitching more often than not, take you much further than a good offense.
Here is what I said 2 months ago. I was correct about both teams thus far. But I was wrong about the reason why the Dodgers offense will not play up to potential. It is not because their actual starters will not perform, it is because their actual starters are not playing due to injuries.

Every team has injuries, four pitchers that was on the starting rotation for the pirates are hurt. It's part of the game.

I am still trying to figure out these Atlanta Braves. I know they strike out WAY to much but their pitching has been pretty good. I think they need to shore up their 7th/8th inning relievers. Curious to see how Alex Wood pitches against the Mets on Tuesday. That might even make the starting pitcher issue even more up in the air. Right now, it is hard to say who the best team is but it seems as if St. Louis, Cincy, and the Braves are right there.

Of course, but it does make a difference when you lose your leadoff, #2, #3, #5, hitters (2/3 of your outfield and half of your infield) for most of the season thus far, as well as 3 starting pitchers. Few teams can succeed with half of their offense and more than half of their starting pitching staff missing most of the season.

Will you Pirates be doing as well if they went most of the season without Marte, McCutchen, Jones, ect? Heck, just McCuchen alone will make a huge impact on the team's success.

The Dodgers have had more key injuries than any team in baseball. That will make a big difference in the success of the team.

This was their projected starting lineup on opening day. This is an All Star lineup. Compare that to who played yesterday and tell me how yesterday's lineup can even match this projected one.

1. Crawford LF (out for a long time)
2. M. Ellis 2B (DL'd for over a month and now plays sporadically because the injury is still there)
3. Kemp CF (Still out)
4. Gonzalez 1B (missed some time with neck problems after running into the ump)
5. Ramirez SS (Played a total of 1 week so far)
6. Ethier RF (The only healthy player in the whole lineup all year)
7. AJ Ellis C (Just came off the DL. Missed a lot of time)
8. Uribe/Cruz (Both with nagging injuries)

Out of their staring 8, only one player has avoided injury all year. Half of them (very important players) have missed a lot of time.

Staring Pitchers DL'd: Becket, Cappuano, Lilly, Billingsley

I'm not a Yankee fan so I can't get into lineup details, but I think it's safe to say that they have had at least the same level of key injuries as the Dodgers, if not more, and have somehow managed to compete in a tough division....

Yeah it sucks being 13 games over 500 and being in third place.

I'm really starting to believe Adrian Gonzalez is not a "winner". He has been part of three late season collapses on three different teams (including the epic Red Sox collapse of 2011) and seems to always have nagging injuries. When he was on the Padres I coveted him, and I was ecstatic when the Red Sox acquired him. But my opinion on him has changed dramatically.

IMO, he is the prototype "paper tiger"....ie: he puts up great numbers, but at the end of the day you have nothing to show for it. Perhaps I'm all wet with this opinion, but I definitely think it warrants discussion.

This post expresses my sentiments exactly...

Bill James once wrote that the quickest way to turn around a team was to get rid if Bobby Bonds. He changed teams seven times in his career, and nearly every time, the team he left had a better record after he left, and the team he went to had a worse record than it had previously.

And how can anyone be shocked that both Beckett and Crawford are on the DL. We've seen that story the last 3 years.
