MLB 2013 Season

Two playoff berths could be clinched tonight:

Red Sox need a win and an Indians loss to clinch a playoff berth
Braves need to sweep their day/night doubleheader to clinch the NL East

It may very well be it's because I was sooooo pissed off at my own team, but I thought the Orioles were a little too excited when the Sox yacked up a playoff spot. Now PLEASE don't get me wrong, it's the Red Sox own fault that they coughed up a fur ball the size of Manhattan, BUT these two teams play each other six times in the next twelve days. And who needs those games more NOW?? Hmmmm

Tonight's Sox lineup:

Pedroia 2B
Victorino CF
Ortiz DH
Napoli 1B
Nava RF
Carp LF
Saltalamacchia C
Drew SS
Bogaerts 3B
Pitching: Ryan Dempster (8-9, 4.70)

No resting tonight....Looks like the O's will have to earn it...;)

Unless there's something wrong with Middlebrooks physically, I'd rather that he get in there and work on the mini slump he's currently going through.

This is what's reported about Middlebrooks:

9/17 Injury Report: Not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against Baltimore (September 17, flu-like symptoms)

Nats win game 1 with 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th. Braves magic number remains 4.

It's possible that BOTH the Yankees and Red Sox could finish at the bottom of the AL East. :(

FWIW (not much, I can assure you :)), here's my AL East predictions:

1. Blue Jays
2. Rays (wildcard)
3. Red Sox
4. Yankees
5. Orioles

From wayyyyyyy back in this thread (post #76).........looks like somebody was wayyyyyy off!! :)

The Nationals cannot close the gap with Cincy by gaining two games in the standings every ten. The Nats have 12 games left, Cincy has 11, and the Nats trail by 4 and a half. Basically, the Nats have to get it to three or fewer in a day or two. If Cincy loses today and tomorrow and the Nats win tomorrow, then it is three. You can make up three with nine or ten to go, but beyond that, it would take one team winning out or the other losing all their games if they don't close it somewhat by tomorrow.

Oh! How I wanna see the Rays just bury the Rangers.

IF (and granted that's a big IF) the Red Sox hold on to the #1 seed, they will be playing one of the six teams that are currently fighting for the two wild card spots in the ALDS. These two teams are at the top of the list of teams I don't want to play.

Saltalamacchia just stole third, with a right handed batter in the box, and he stole home the other day. Ortiz has stolen third at least twice this year. I know that some great base stealers have said it is easier to steal third than second, but this is ridiculous.

Now tonight's lineup is one that is capable of scoring more than 3 runs (depending on how much of a factor their injuries and lack of playing come factor.) The injuries will still prevent the Ramirez and Kemp from performing at 100%. The Dodgers are still missing Crawford and Ethier.

Puig RF
M Ellis 2B
Ramirez SS
Gonzalez 1B
Kemp CF
Uribe 3B
Van Slyke LF
A Ellis C
Greinke P

If they can get all 4 outfielders healthy they can finally have the 4 man platoon they have been envisioning for a while. These are the 4 different platoon lineups using Kemp, Ethier, Crawford, and Puig:

Puig RF
Crawford LF
Ramirez SS
Gonzalez 1B
Kemp CF
Uribe 3B
M Ellis 2B
AJ Ellis C
P

Crawford LF
Puig RF
Gonzalez 1B
Ramirez SS
Ethier CF
Uribe 3B
M Ellis 2B
AJ Ellis C
P

Crawford LF
M Ellis 2B
Gonzalez 1B
Ramirez SS
Ethier RF
Kemp CF
Uribe 3B
AJ Ellis C
P

Puig RF
M Ellis 2B
Gonzalez 1B
Ramirez SS
Ethier LF
Kemp CF
Uribe 3B
AJ Ellis C
P

Just heard on the radio broadcast: The Red Sox have been successful in their last 35 consecutive stolen base attempts.
