As poorly as he has played that wouldn't be a big surprise. Granderson has been worse and should be benched, IMNSHO.

I'd like to a Tigers-Orioles series as well. We already had a Tigers-Yankees series in last year's ALDS. Time to see something a little different.Let's see...so it's:
Detroit vs Baltimore or Detroit @ New York in the ALCS
SF Giants vs St. Louis or SF Giants @ Washington in the NLCS
Does that sum it up?
I'm sure the MLB/TBS/FOX trio would love to see a NYY-DET matchup, but I would like to see DET-BAL. In the NL I bet the MLB/TBS/FOX trio would prefer St. Louis make the NLSC sice that would give them the broadcast geographical appeal: San Francisco, New York, Detroit and St. Louis. Personally, I'll be cheering for the Nationals.

Maybe, but Girardi's probably concerned with keeping Granderson in the lineup for his defense....

The Yankees get the late afternoon start? Yeah I know its 5:00 but I figured TBS would say they get the "prime time" slot

As someone previously mentioned, voting for annual awards ends BEFORE the playoffs start. So Verlander's ALDS performances won't factor into the voting.
That's because the winning team has to turn around and play tomorrow. Which, if the O's win, would mean travel is necessary. If the Yankees win, Detroit would have to travel, but at least they have today off instead of having to play. So I bet the earlier start time reflects the logistical needs imposed by the schedule and not the network's desire to showcase the Yankees in primetime. If anything, this game should have started even earlier so that whoever is traveling could get into their hotel at a reasonable time tonight.
I understand why they schedule things this way, but it strikes me as doing a disservice to the teams and the fans (see yesterday's abysmal start times for game 5s).

But neither team had to travel in between the games?
