Well they got their stadium two years ago and now Terry Ryan must think its 1996 again when he thinks he can field a good team with rookies

NL East Notes: Hamels, Mets, Martinez, Prado: MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com shows that the Mets already have a projected payroll in the $90MM range. GM Sandy Alderson has suggested the team's payroll could be less than $100MM, so the Mets may not have much offseason shopping remaining.
The Mets are interested in catcher Luis Martinez, who was designated for assignment by the Padres on Sunday, according to Mike Puma of the New York Post (on Twitter). The 26-year-old hit .203/.309/.305 in 68 plate appearances with the Padres this past season.
The offseason shopping is done? Tremendous job.

The Texas Rangers posted the highest bid for Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish and that bid was accepted by Darvish's team in Japan, Major League Baseball announced Monday night.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels would not say how much the Rangers posting bid was, but sources said it was around $51.7 million. Bidding for the posting fee closed last Wednesday, and the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters had until 5 p.m. EST on Tuesday to accept.
That's a little more than the Red Sox bid for Daisuke Matsuzaka...

Texas Rangers acquire rights to negotiate with Japan's Yu Darvish - ESPN Dallas

The Cubs and Red Sox have agreed that former Red Sox GM Theo Epstein won't be able to hire anyone from the Red Sox for three years, according to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com (on Twitter).

I find this interesting, seeing teams get coaches from other teams all the time ....
Of course theres ways to get around that.

This kid Latos can pitch, and his compass seems to be headed north. Huge upside on this kid...I think Cincy got all they could out of Volquez. This could work out well for the Reds.

Sandra

He wouldn't sign a long term contract and with his arm troubles he has had and he has pitched a lot of walks compared to what he used to. I think the Reds got a great deal.

Gio Gonzalez has been traded to the Nationals for 4 minor leaguers.

VERY disappointed and a missed opportunity by the Marlins.

I saw that too, the Tigers were interested till they found out the demands were WAY too high ...

Any word if the Minors were anyone Ready for Prime time ?

They wanted 2 of the Tigers TOP prospects (probably be in the Bigs this year) and 2 others.

From the Marlins, they wanted either... Gabby Sanchez, Logan Morrison or Mike Stanton. LMAO!

IF they would have pulled off the Pujols deal, Gabby was good as gone.

Yeah, from the Yankees they wanted Montero AND one of the Killer B's...either Banuelos or Betances.

Cashman thought that price was too high...

In Detroit they wanted Jacob Turner and Oliver, both TOP pitching prospects and others as well.

Had they not been so picky they probably could have had Oliver and others.

I personally was not sold on Gio being the be all end all.
I'm glad they didn't bite.

Carlos Beltran signs a 2 year no-trade clause deal with the Cardinals. Deal worth $26 million. Good pick-up for St. Louis.
Good pick if he is healthy. When was the last time he actually played a full season?

ETA: Looking at his stats his last full season was 2008 and prior to that was 2005. The only time he has ever played in every game was 2002.

This day and age, playing the whole season doesn't mean 162 games, most consider 140 and up to be a whole season ...

Hell, in Detroit you might NEVER play even that much when Leyland can't play the same guys every day, even if they are winning.

Cabrera played in every game somewhere, 7 time DH and 2 times as a Pinch hitter, but the rest of the team got plenty of time off, I would guess that Jackson may have been the next one with the most games played.

True, but in his case those 20 or more days missed were not due to the occasional days off for rest, they were due to actual injury. Some years he missed even more time than that.

As if trading for Gio Gonzalez wasn't enough, word has it that though it cost the Nats some of the best prospects they had to get Gio, it cost the team relatively little in money, so it gives them a chance to go after....*gulp*... Prince Fielder! If they accomplish that...they could be one of the best teams in all of baseball...not just the National League East.

..wow..

Not impressed with Gio, glad Tigers didn't go hard after him.

Slightly over .500 record, 1 walk for every 2 innings .... not hardly worth the expensive pieces they were asking for.
