Not impressed with Gio, glad Tigers didn't go hard after him.

Slightly over .500 record, 1 walk for every 2 innings .... not hardly worth the expensive pieces they were asking for.

Record means nothing. What was King Felix's record when he won the Cy Young...? Yep, 13-12. He is one of the best lefty starters in all of the AL.

I don't care about his record, Doug Fister was like 3-10 with Seattle and went 8-1 with the Tigers. Fister still had a low era as well and doesn't walk people.

Gio walks a TON of players, one every other inning.
Tigers need to bring in players that DON'T walk people.

LOL yeah, I agree about Gio Gonzalez. Having an average record also doesn't make you a great pitcher! You have to look deeper than that.

I'm glad the Yankees did not give up the farm for him.

I have NO idea why you guys state he has a bad record when when won 15 and then 16 games on a bad A's team. His ERA DROPPED from 3.23 to 3.12 on the SAME bad A's team. He is was in the top 10 in least amount of hits per 9 innings in the AL the last couple of years, top 5 in Ks per 9 innings...and in the top 10 in every major pitching category for starters in the American League.

...not to mention just about 3/4 of the entire Major Leagues wanted him...

... yeah, he was 'overrated' LOL! Apparently, you guys know something those scouts don't.... LOL!

Well, for the sake of facts, I did not say he had a bad record...I said he had an AVERAGE record. 16-12 last year and 38-32 for his career is average.

I get that being on the A's there are mitigating circumstances so you don't have to list them, but his record was still average.

You have gone an contradicted yourself in your own defense. You yourself state that being on the A's that "there are mitigating circumstances". So you cannot hold his "still average record" against him. Cannot have it both ways.

Like I said, Felix Hernandez has pitched in the majors 7 seasons and has only been above .500 in only 4 of those. Has only won above 14 games ONCE...his ERA has been under 3.50 only 3 times.

Is HE average?

I was correcting your statement that I said Gonzalez had a bad record, which I did not...I said he has an average record. That is all.

Are you really trying to find stats that imply Gonzalez is as good as Hernandez?

OK, if you want stats...

For Hernandez, a different way to spin your 'his ERA has been under 3.50 only 3 times' is that his ERA was also WELL UNDER 3.00 those three times...2.67, 2.49 and 2.27 in his Cy Young season. Gonzalez...not even close.

Hernandez eats innings...238, 249 and 233 the last three season. Gonzalez has never gone over 202.

Here is a fun fact many people probably don't know...Gio Gonzalez is ONE YEAR OLDER than King Felix.

Interesting.

Not trying to compare them at all. But I bring out his win-loss point because apparently, it IS a sticking point because of his "average" record.

Sandra

Not interesting as much as he was rushed into service and a risk that luckily for the Mariners....they had nothing much when it came to a rotation. Gio was not rushed...as if management was grooming him to be traded.

Sounds like he was also in the Top 10 in Walks Allowed.

Man...if you are gonna overlook his entire body of work because he gave up walks...something that can be easily corrected...then it would be your loss if you don't take him when offered. He is probably one of the top lefties in all of the ML right now. STILL under original contract for 2 years AND at the league minimum.

A total and complete no brainer in every sense of the word.

1st, WALKS cannot be easily corrected.

Tigers are terrible with walks ... they brought in the BEST COACH available a guy who's team NEVER gave up walks, from the Twins and HE couldn't fix them.

Tigers were interested, had they not asked the world they may have seriously considered him.
If they got him and didn't give up a STARTING Major League pitcher and the TWO TOP pitching prospects they were asking for. They also wanted Ryan Strieby Power hitting RF at AAA.

They were asking WAY to much for a guy that isn't a STUD.

At least half of all ML teams were asking for him in a trade scenario. Obviously, they know something you and I do not.

Again, one of the best left handed starters in the majors...on a crappy team that was able to win 1st 15 games and then 16 games a year later....with every year, his ERA dropping and total innings a year increasing.

A PROVEN starter over unproven minor leaguers. Prime example is that Cabrera trade between the Marlins and the Tigers.

Yup, they know that the list of available pitching stinks this year.

Yeah, this is how I feel too..and so, apparently did the Yankees and a lot of other teams. You notice the Nationals' top prospects (Bryce Harper, Anthony Rendon) were not discussed for a guy like Gonzalez. He's just what you said...good pitcher, but certainly not a stud.

Put King Feilx on the market, and you'll see a feeding frenzy that includes every top prospect out there.

WAY too many rumors about Felix Hernandez becoming availabe for GM Jack Zduriencik to state they did not send out feelers. As someone has said in here many times...where there is smoke...there is fire. Do a google search on Felix Hernandez and google almost explodes with trade rumors.

That's not my point, but...ok. There has been smoke for a couple of years now...

Ya, your liking this one, Felix to the Marlins.

MLB Trade Rumors

However, I had to go 15 posts down to find a Trade rumor regarding him.

And for both teams it would make sense, Felix to the Marlins and Ramirez, Mike Stanton and a Prospect ....

If thats all they want, I think a bunch of other teams should be involved, including the Tigers.

Sportsgather.com? Who are they? Do they have some reputation of breaking any news?

Won't happen. The Marlins would rather give up Ramirez before they give up Staton.

Just showed up when I did a search like you mentioned.
It was reported yesterday or today, so keep your eyes open to see if anything comes of it.
Probably won't , but with the Marlins this year, ya never know.

The Red Sox got reliever Andrew Bailey from Oakland, along with a left-handed banjo hitting defensive outfielder, for Josh Reddick. The end of their bullpen can be Melancon (pronounced Mel-an' son), Bailey and maybe even Jenks if his arm recoivers, freeing up both Bard and Aceves to fill out the starting rotation.

I don't mind seeing the Red Sox keeping their money in their pockets for now. They still need a right handed hitting right fiielder, but they can wait until one becomes available under favorable terms. They might even wind up with three more solid years from Lackey starting next year. Wouldn't that be nice?
