Boycotting the Marlins I agree 100% Its going to be a sad place for the players who are going to pay for the wrath towards the owner but that's the nature of the business. World Baseball Classic I'd go to support my country but I just wouldnt buy any beer.

Cheers, K

Funny you mentioned that, I got a call from the Marlins asking if as a season ticket holder(from last year and ONLY a partial season ticket holder)...I stated IF Puerto Rico advances to the 2nd round, that "I MIGHT go, but your greedy-a$$ owner is not getting jack sh*% from my pocket. I am going to make sure I eat AND drink BEFORE I get to the stadium. IF fact, I am going to take public transportation to the park so that you guys don't get THAT MONEY too...."

I got dead silence...and he said "thank you" and wished me a nice day and hung up.

Dodgers agree to $147M deal with Zack Greinke http://sports.yahoo.com/news/dodgers-near-deal-with-zack-grienke-010147316.html There is link for it and there go your ticket prices up alot higher :)
Ticket prices will not change more than they normally do from year to year. The Dodgers still offer some of the lowest prices of any team in baseball. The extra top deck section that no other stadium has is very affordable. Season ticket prices for this section are $5/game and game day tickets are around $8. Season prices for the front row behind home-plate are about $80/game and around $100 for same day.

The money for their payroll comes from the TV contract. They will have the most lucrative contract in all of sports.

And to think, a few months back, they were BROKE ....

There is NO WAY he is worth 6 years and all that dough! I am so thankful Arte walked away from the table on this one.

There is no player worth that much in any sport.Another reason baseball needs a hard salary cap like football has ..The rich get richer in babseball with teams :)

Even though I am not a fan, there is no one happier than I that the Dodgers are now "right-sided" and able to spend like this. I just can't see them doing this with a guy who has the issues Zack has had in his past. The little time that he was with the Angels I could see him getting "drifty" and unfocused on the mound. He's great when he is comfortable but get him out of his zone and watch out!

So true you get him in trouble and he is done :)

Adjusted for inflation, Babe Ruth earned $1M per season. Who here feels this should be the basis for MLB salaries these days? Turds should not be making $9M per year when a realistic salary would be $200K. Stupid fans/stupid us for tolerating this BS.

It is difficult to compare value at different times even when adjusted for inflation. There are way too many variables. Value is always determined by supply, demand, and available revenue sources. Players years ago made less (even when adjusted for inflation) because the available revenue was less, mostly due to fewer sources of revenue. Most of the money during Ruth's time was made from ticket sales within much smaller stadiums that had a lot smaller average attendance; therefor the amount of revenue available to pay the players was much less. There were no huge TV contracts and stadiums were lucky to draw 500k fans a year (only the Yanks were able to top the 1million mark).

Do I think Greinke himself is worth this much? Heck no! I don't think any pitcher, especially at his age, should get 6 years as well. That is way too much of a risk. But with that said, just as with anything the value is worth whatever one is willing to pay and whatever value at which they are still able to make a profit.

Dodgers just signed Korean stud pitcher, Ryu-Hyun Jin, to a 6 year deal.

They have 7 starting pitchers and their top 5 were/are or could all be Aces:

Kershaw
Greinke
Ryu
Billingsley
Beckett

Backup starters:

Capuano
Lilly
Harang
