wow them Dodgers are something, up 5-1 beating Lincecum and lost 7-5 in the 9th after been up 5-4, LOL
That was one of the most bizarre games I have ever seen in my life. I am not making excuses for the fact that the Dodgers lost their first seven games since the All Star break because they ARE stinking it up and simply losing by their own doing. But last nights lost can have a lot of blame placed on the over-reactionary rookie home-plate umpire. Words cannot explain it. You had to see it to believe it. But I will try to highlight some of the stupid things.
First, Kemp is hit by a very wild Lincecum and both benches are warned. It was obviously not intentional, plus it did not leave the Dodgers with an opportunity to respond.
Martin then gets almost nailed in the head and nothing happens to the Giants, but the Dodgers bench coach was kicked out for yelling at the ump about it.
Kershaw, a few innings later hits Rowen, which too did not look intentional, and is immediately kicked out along with Torre. The Giants now have one hit batter and the Dodgers have one hit batter and another knocked down, but it is only the Dodgers that lose two coaches and a pitcher. This leaves the inexperienced Mattingly to run the game, which will play a big role in the game.
Mattingly walks out to the mound to talk to Borxton, while out there he steps on the dirt of the mound twice. The umps then called that two visits to the mound and force the Dodgers to take out their closer (a rule that is NEVER enforced). Now the Dodgers are out two pitchers too early and their top two coaches for basically doing nothing wrong. They have to bring in a pitcher even though one is not ready. You can now guess what happens when a relief pitcher is forced to pitch, especially for a save, when he is not warmed up. Three runs later, the Dodgers lose.
This one game is symbolic of their whole season. Somewhat parallels a family situation during a divorce. Wait, that is exactly what is going on.

San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers - Recap - July 20, 2010 - ESPN
No ejection of Torre = no mistake by Mattingly.
No ejection Kershaw, and the relief staff is used differently
No ejection of Broxton, and the outcome could be different.
Again, this is not an excuse for the Dodgers. It is just a description of what happened and how little events can have a huge impact on outcomes
