What is this, the SB pre game show ?
The Tigers use to have WJR (radio) down at the stadium from early morning till game time as well doing interviews and such.
I'm sure most places do this type of thing for Opening Day.
What's with the WJR banner on the building behind center field at Comerica? I thought 97.1 The Ticket was the Tigers' home station.
Don't know, I didn't see it, maybe they are sponsors ?
Could it be that Mr. I is coming to his senses and soon going back to the 70,000 watt BLOWTORCH ?
We (I) can only hope :up
I am only 50 miles south of Detroit and am very lucky if I can hear the games on any of the stations covering the Tigers and Wings out of Detroit.
I thought 1270 AM was the home station.
In Toledo we have 2 stations one AM 1470 and one FM 106.5 and neither are worth a damn as far as reliably being able to listen to the games.
This is one HUGE reason I have my XM in the car and work truck.
btw, many years ago, the Wings were in the playoffs and I was sent to Columbus for work training and was able to listen to the games fine down there on WJR
97.1 and 1270 are both flagships; they're called WXYT/WXYT-FM. Most games air on both stations except when the Red Wings, Lions or Pistons air simultaneously, then 1270 does it solo.
and WJR is 50 kW watts (maximum FCC allowed power) not 70.
I listened to WJR and WLW all my life, they kept me going as a young kid.
Yes, the Reds and the Tigers.
I grew up with some damn good announcers.
Occasionally I would scan the transistor for the station in Chicago and listen to Harry Carey as well, of course those would have to be late at night in order to hear them.
Saw Bob Costas on Jimmy Fallon the other night. He said his dad was a compulsive gambler and made him check the scores on the radio, and that's how he got interested in sportscasting - by listening to baseball on superstations (WLW Reds, KDKA Pirates, KMOX Cardinals, etc.). Interesting story.
Too bad the MLB EI freeview didnt go a couple more days. Then you could see Twins home opener, the Indians opener and hear Vin Sculley on Tuesday (Dodgers are off tomorrow)
Its goofy if you ask me that they dont do the freeview for more than 7 days....MLB usually has a team on the road for the 1st week so the home openers are usually Monday then the next Monday so if they go a week on the freeview you cant see the home openers. IMO baseball home opener is the best one out there
