MLB 2009 Season

Manny could earn some respect back if he declines the invitation because he knows he doesn't deserve it.

I don't think he will go if he's voted in, he hates to go when he's voted in in a normal year, trying to get out of going as many do, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him turn it down anyways.

It's foolish when the fans vote like that in the first place, I would prefer to see the All star game played as a real game with the players and managers voting, and perhaps the media guys as well.

The Dodgers don't seem to miss Manny.

Not at all, Paul...and it is interesting to see the sidestepping and dancing around the issue the McCourts are doing re: this and his return. They have allegedly told him hie could say what he wanted upon return and not have to admit to anything if he didn't want to. AND they are encouraging fans to vote him in as an All-Star!!!!!

Methinks the Mannyin L.A. Circus will be taking on an even wilder ride come upon the 4th of July weekend.

The Dodgers may have the best record and be in 1st place, but I will still take the quiet struggle going on just South on the 5 as a team tries to find itself and regain the AL West crown. :up

Guys, I have a bit of a dilemma.

My favorite baseball team, the Oakland A's, is having a bad season- worst record in the AL, fewest homers, lowest team batting average.

I am getting fed up with their lack of success on the field that has declined since they made the ALCS in 2006.

It doesn't look like things are getting better.

I'm between a rock and a hard place- I'm fed up with their losing, but I don't want to jump ship and be a bandwagoner. OTOH, with all their problems, how much is too much to put up with?

I am still NOT considering jumping ship right now, but at this rate, it's getting terrible and I haven't had much to cheer about with them in years.

Suppose you've been in a marriage for many years, but right now, things are falling apart and there's little chance of things getting better.

Should I consider possibly "divorcing" my Oakland "wife" or should I keep holding on and hope for a turnaround?

What ties do you have to the Oakland, California area anyways? Unless your born in the city or moved there and lived most of your life, what reasons do you have to stay "committed" to that city/team? If the answer is none to either of the first two questions, then by all means, feel free to pick another team.

For me, it's easy. I was born and raised in Cleveland. I have no choice but to come back each and every year to support the city and team I grew up with my whole life. That's what we do. We pick ourselves up each and every year and get right back up. It's more of a cultural thing for me.

It sounds like you've moved around a few times in your life and don't have any one fan base you are overwhelmingly committed to, which is fine. If that's the case, root for whoever you want.

I only have moved once- from Buffalo to Kenosha in 1994.

The NFL and NHL are different- Buffalo has the Sabres and Bills, team I can commit to.

Buffalo doesn't have pro baseball, but I had to find a team to care about.

I grew into an A's fan because I collected many baseball cards and I found Oakland's cards to be among the coolest-loooking- seeing those players on nightly highlights and the occasional game helped out.

Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago Cubs or Chicago White Sox would be the surrounding teams in your current area you could follow. Just a suggestion.

Personally, I would just find it difficult to follow a team on the West coast because the games aren't televised locally unless you have MLB EI.

Somebody can this clown...PLEASE!!!!

This time Carlos Zambrano is in trouble with Cubs management and his teammates rather than Major League Baseball because he blew off the team flight to Atlanta on Monday without permission. It was not known what his reason was for missing the departure. Zambrano arrived at the ballpark Tuesday afternoon and was summoned into manager Lou Piniella's office before the game for a meeting that lasted about five minutes. He wasn't in the clubhouse after the game as he is serving his six-game suspension. Piniella didn't say what the meeting was about and assistant general manager Randy Bush had no comment. -- Chicago Tribune

Dude, you live in Wisconsin! Last I checked the Brewers had a pretty good team. I didn't even know you were an A's fan till now. Get on the home team bandwagon! You have my permission.:D

He doesn't have my permission. Sabres, you need to man-up and leave the dance with the girl you came with! :)

Of course you would, you are an Angels fan. If it was reversed, I am sure you would prefer the Manny drama if it got you past just a division crown.

Honestly, I don't know. The Manny thing is such a smear on the whole thing that I don't know how I'd feel if I were a Dodgers fan. As a baseball fan, I definitely do not like the drama of it all.

BTW, EXCELLENT comeback last evening!:up

Which one of the Rangers do you think is going to get taken out tonight?
Any odds on the Yankees kicking butt tonight too?:D
Maybe we will we have a riot tonight!:D

I never liked Manny when he was a Sox. I did not like the trade at the time either. I still don't care for him, but if he helps the team, I will root for him as a Dodger. That does not change my opinion of him as a person.
