MLB 2009 Season

Manny speaks:

"I would like to play for Cleveland one more time, to go back where I started," Ramirez told USA Today. "I have so many good memories there, why not?

Even more to the story...

According to USA Today, Ramirez talked to Chicago White Sox designated hitter Jim Thome this spring about an eventual return to Cleveland, telling his Indians teammate from 1993-2000 that if they were free agents after this season they should consider a reunion.

"Me and Thome back in Cleveland?" Ramirez asked, according to the report. "That would be sweet.

"I love L.A. I really do. But the way the city responded to me, it reminded me a lot of how it was in Cleveland."

No way in hell it happens, but could you imagine this batting order:

Grady Sizemore
Mark DeRosa
Victor Martinez
Manny Ramirez
Travis Hafner
Jim Thome
Jhonny Peralta
Sin Soo Choo
Ryan Garko

That would be very impressive, but IMO, not nearly as impressive as this Tribe lineup from the 90's:

Lofton
Vizquel
Baerga
Belle
Murray
Ramirez
Thome
Sorrento
Alomar

That was one of the scariest lineups in my 35 years following MLB!

Marlins made an early statement to the Mets and the rest of the National East over the weekend by beating their 2 best pitchers...if they don't make and error on Saturday night, it would have been a sweep! Let' see what happens when they go into Atlanta.

If they keep this up, I could change my mind about the NL East and pick Florida to go all the way.

I just heard on the radio the Josh Beckett has been suspended for 6 games for the incident with the Angels. I understand and agree with the suspension, but I wonder how many more times Jethro Chamberlain has to throw at Youkilus' head before he is suspended?

6 games? So what, he'll miss one start? That's BS of the highest degree.

Yeah, suspensions to pitchers mean nothing.

I think Fausto got suspended for 5 games at the end of last year, and 1 game this year for the fight with Gary Sheffield. All the Indians did was move him around in the rotation, (before and after the suspension) and he didn't miss any starts.

Agreed, but Beckett should miss two starts- what he did was bush league

Quadruple agreed!!! If that POS throws at Youks head one more f'in time I swear I'll go through the TV!

I'll tell you what, Bill. Looking back at it now as this fog is beginning to thin a bit...Beckett may have just done the Angels the biggest favor anyone could have done for them. A way to let it all go and let go of pent up anger and emotions. That whole thing rolled through the stadium like a 6.5 earthquake...and then there were the aftershocks. Everyone who was an Angels fan or staff member or (especially) player NEEDED to let go of all that had been buliding since 12:20AM Thursday morning.

I have never seen Mike so angry for such a long period of time. I truly feel Country Joe saw this and was content to let that second wave of bench-clearing to occur. He never stands for that!

The feeling in that stadium was something I've never experienced before. It was a full house filled with emotions from both Angels and Sox fans. It was ROCKIN'!

Suspensions, etc. aside the Angels got the win and took the series. It was a necessary victory for all in Anaheim red.

The best thing that could have happened is that now the team is on the road for 7 days. I am sure there will be bonding unlike anyone on that team has ever seen before. We'll see how these next few weeks play out.

The Angels may very well be giving Beckett a big "thank you" next time they see him. ;)
