I really like my Sat Hero 200,it does everything I need to keep the farm tuned in very little time..Dee Ann I was just like you when it comes to wanting a nice sat list in the meter but now it is no big deal!..I have tp`s programmed into wrong sats.Sats with wrong frequencies...lol...I no longer even look for the sat I have one of my fixed dish`s parked at that I am working on!.I just look for the correct lnb freq needed and punch in the tp...Tuned in a snap!!!

Now a correct sat list in all my receivers is a must!.I am a stickler like that but a meter..Not so much as its just a tool for the end result.

Good luck with ur farm.

I've been biting my tongue for most of this thread. A while back, upon recommendation from several here on SatelliteGuys I bought a Sat Hero 200. I read about all the tricks for "normalizing" the jumping display numbers on S2 signals. I found the process to be extremely tedious. Regular DVB-S are fine but DVB-S2 signals were jumping around so much that fine tuning my dish was impossible. To top it off the audible beeper could not be disabled in software. The only way to silence the thing was to open it up and cut a trace on the PCB. Yes I tried to cover the beeper with tape. I personally would not recommend this meter to anyone that needs to fine tune DVB-S2 signals. YMMV.

I'm using Sat Hero 200 to tune DVB-S2, about the jumping issue you can try different transponders that not jump, then with the combination of an analog sat finder I got what I wanted.

The SatHero 200 is not perfect, the construction is pretty cheap, but for now in it's price range is the device that I will be using for now.

This might be redundant, but does the SatHero 200 identify what bird it locks onto? I am curious cause I am in the market for a good meter as well. Cause the sat receivers are dumb and have to be told what bird they are looking at....I think you guys know what I am trying to ask...

With SatHero 200 you have to select the transponder then when it's locked the device will tell you that you are tunning a transponder at the frequency and V or H and SR, then there's a button that can scan that transponder so if the transponder shows the channels you are specting that's how you know if you are on the satellite you are looking for.

No, the SatHero 200 does not have satellite identification.

So I went ahead and ordered an AI Turbo S2 today. Hoping it will be here by the weekend.

I was checking youtube for videos about it and there are zero. I googled for videos of any kind, anywhere and there are zero.
I was hoping to learn more about it while I’m waiting but I guess not.

Once my new meter comes in I’m probably going to put my old meters for sale in the classified section.

Ya know...There has to be a meter out there that bridges the gap in price meeting value! I know that I am not going to fork over $800 for a meter, as this is a HOBBY for me. I am not trying to make money doing installs. I can see where the value comes in if I was trying to make a living by using a quality meter like the AI Turbo, but for most of us this is a hobby, and that is out of reach. There has to be a meter half that price that ID's birds, reliable, firmware upgradable, accurate and locks onto all the signals like the AI Turbo. Am I off base, or is this the reality here...:popcorn

There are some meters out there that will probably work great for FTA S2 stuff and are affordable.
I almost bought that SatHero ~$400 meter but I really wanted one to cover EVERYTHING including Dish.
Since I am a subscriber to dish I built up a very non-approved three dish system using large, converted linear commercial dishes.
I want to tweak them. And I'll likely switch them out for even bigger dishes. So being able to do Turbo 8psk was a must for me.

I don't do this for a living or even for money but I do it often enough to have a never ending migraine.
And I really owe it to my dad to get his dish working 101%.
He really likes his PBS.

And to be honest, I don't have any patience at all. When stuff breaks or gives me a tough time, I flip out.

After the BS I've had with my old meters and having seen so many glowing recommendations for the AITS2 I decided this was the only logical option.
I just couldn't find any other meters that do ALL the types of signals except this one.

But if you only need to do FTA, there are a lot of cheaper, decent options..

I understand what you mean! I have a cheap $30 meter, and I'm looking to upgrade. I too strive for the best of things sometimes. All I need a meter for is FTA, we have cable tv elsewhere in the house, and I am the only NERD playing with FTA in the house. LOL I was just hoping for another option if it was out there, and I meant no harm to any installers that do this for a living.

Well, if you don’t need to worry about S2 signals there are tons of them that are very affordable.
I started with an OLD Birdog I bought from a friend of a neighbor, I can’t remember for sure but I think it was like 4 years ago maybe, more or less. At that time there was nothing on S2 and it was OK but I wanted one with an actual tuner and tv screen so I could ~verify~ stuff. So I bought some Chinese clone thing off of ebay. It was a bit of a disappointment because there is no way to connect it to a PC and edit things in it.
You have to do ALL the editing through it’s tiny little screen and keypad. That part of it annoys me deeply. And when I bought it, S2 was not really in use, yet. Other than the very annoying lack of interface, it was fairly handy because I really hate dragging an STB, TV, power cord, etc, all out into the yard. But since then there seems to be a rush to switch to S2 and that has been troublesome for me.

Another problem I have is that ALL of my dishes, including the ones I use to watch subscription Dish with, are Frankendishs, made from pieces and parts that I found laying around, a lot of it has been given to me, some of it I bought online, etc.. I’ve converted dishes that were linear commercial dishes into circular. I’m converting a large commercial linear KU dish into a mini C-band dish.
Everything I have is breaking the rules. And I’m not very good at it either so I really need a proper meter.

I even converted some old linear stationary dishes into HH motorized dishes. And since they weren’t designed to be used that way, there are no markings on them for setting ANYTHING. Plus I flipped the mounting hardware upside-down as well. It seems like strive to torture myself by continually taking on difficult if not impossible situations.

IF I were only needing a meter for FTA I would definitely buy one that does S2.
Most of the meters that will recognize S2, won’t actually tune it in and show you an S2 video on screen. Most of them only give you a rudimentary beepy meter for the S2 BUT will tune in and display non-S2 signals.

That being the case, you’re getting essentially an older type meter/tuner/tv (which can be had for under $100 on ebay all day long) and one of the multitude of little pocket meters for S2, combined into one.

Most of the ads for the meters out there are very aloof about the capabilities. You have to read them very carefully and in most cases, fill in the missing information.
I came close to buying several meters but when I would go back and double-triple check them for the 23rd time just before clicking the buy now button, I would realize that they were omitting features.

It boiled down to two meters for me, the SatHero SH-600HD or the Satlink WS6932-HD.
I was searching for a US based vendor (which are few and far between) because I do not like ordering direct from China or Hong Kong.
Either one of those meters can be found from anywhere from $300 to $400, if you shop around and are willing to take a chance on buying direct from over there.

Yeah, it does seem that there are a lot of models that appear to do it all, but are some cheap knock off rig that is just a paper weight. I have been searching and looking at reviews and specs for a couple months now.

Sounds like you have it going on over there by making it all work! That's pretty awesome in the fact of putting different things together and bending the rules to make it happen!

The bottom line is that I would want a meter that can do S2 and as much of the latest feature as possible without trying to buy a Supper Buddy. It sounds like most of the meters don't like to lock on an S2 signal, and I wonder if technology will change in these lower price meters to where they would be successful in locking onto the signals. I wonder if it is just a firmware issue in the meter? I have read where the SatHero meters don't like the S2 signals. Time will tell, and it can only get better from here! One would hope.:enjoying

Hmm, now I am torn between the SatHero SH-500G or the SH-600HD...Not sure which one to get. SatHero has this scare about not ordering from them directly, or an approved reseller that they would not give support. I know if I order direct the price will be jacked up! Can you view the picture on the bird with the 600 like the 500? I think the only difference is that the 600 has the spectrum analyzer.
Any thoughts?

It appears so that you can. From the official SatHero site/page “MPEG-2/MPEG-4/H.264 decoding Video format and 1080 Full HD”

I would look the meters you’re interested in up on youtube for some demos, just to be sure.

This is also worth looking at, I was thinking about getting a SuperBuddy and one of these for my S2.

Or possibly one of these,

Now that I have this meter I’ll very probably put my old meters up for sale in the classifieds section here over the weekend.
Now I can get my dishes in right working order..
Of course there’s the learning curve that’s gonna hold me back awhile.
But for now, time to play.. :D

Yep. There is going to be a learning curve.

I also need a minion to lug this beast around for me.
It must have a riding mower battery in it!

OOOOHHHH it is so cute! :)

Just a little note for anyone considering one of the pro meters. The manual that came with my new meter does not cover FTA, AT ALL. It’s barely mentioned beyond the point of a mention that the meter is capable.
So I’m totally on my own in learning to use it for FTA. :(
