I have a DISH TV, single LNBF installation that is about 2.5 years old and over the last few months various transponders have been dropping out so that now signals won't lock on many stations due to low signal (below 46), even in clear skys.
Occasionally, at night only, I might be able to recieve one of the missing stations. Looks like only the even numbered transponders 8-20 have the too-low signal strength. I Still get locking signals from transponders 2,4,5, and odd #s, 9-21, but nothing over 65 except spot beam on 9 which is about strength of 107. Satellite is 199w.
Somewhere I read that the problem might be caused by harsh radiation/heat from the sun that will, with time, warp the plastic cover on the LNB and/or cook the electronic components therein and I live In Hawaii where there is a lot of harsh sunshine! Does anyone have any more info this problem?
I've tried talking with DISH TV tech folk and I just seem to get the run a round. I've inspected the DISH TV 24"antenna dish and it is very secure and there is no line of sight obstructions either. On the LNBF there is single ID label that says it is suitable for DirectV, (but no mention of DISHTV), made in China and showing some serial/model #s. I wonder if this LNBF would have been truely authorized/approved by DISHTV for the original installer to have used. Could it have been substandard?
I'm no techie on this stuff, but it looks like a cinch to swap out the LNBF for a replacement LNBF. This is just a single LNBF with a single co-ax cable and a single screw that holds the LNBF to the dish arm. I have only one receiver & one TV, so I doubt they put a switch in the original installation. Of course I could call the orignial (or different) installer, but I'd guess that would cost me plenty for a house call, just to start with!
If anyone would please advise me:
-Do you think the problem is a failing LNB?
-If so, is this a relativley easy DIY change out?
-If so, where can I find a suitable new replacement single LNBF for purchase?
-What are the techincals I need to purchase the correct one?
Sincerely,
doodoo
