Join the SatelliteGuys Folding@Home Team!

Had a problem with one machine overheating and locking up. I think I have it solved with a new cpu cooler. My production should be back up to normal today.

Hey Scorpy, did you lose a machine or two? Your Folding is about half of where it has been. At your current rate, I'll become a quattro-millionaire before you do!

bebop, you're moving up through the Team's ranks! Up 21 in the last week! I haven't installed my new nVidia card in my son's PC yet, but in celebration of Earth Day, I replaced the P/S in his Dell Dimension 4700 with an Antec EarthWatts 80+% efficiency P/S. It was so much easier than my last P/S transplant as the Dell case uses the standard layout for the case opening. Unplug all of the P/S connections, unscrew four screws, slide out the old P/S, slide in the new P/S, fasten the four screws, plug everything back in, and fired it up. It took all of ten minutes. :up So, I can install the nVidia 9800GTX+ at any time now.

I read on the Folding Forum that nVidia and ATI are announcing new 40nm-based GPUs, so the current generation is being priced to move, as they say. You should be able to find a great deal on a Graphics card in the coming weeks, especially after the new hardware is announced.

Hey Foxbat

Yeah the rig I just built had a problem with restarting everyday so I took it out of production to fix and now I'm back up and running again. What has happen to SatinKzo? :)

Just got home from vacation, found out I had a couple folders locked up. GPU client was just off, not sure what happened to it while we were away. Looks like I have one at work not working either, but I don't actually go back to work until next week.

From the looks of things, it appears that in less than 24 hours we should break the 40 million point mark!
DING-Ding-ding-Ding-DING! 40,000,000 points, Baby!

Come on, Scott, Front Page News!!! We've come a long way in the last 2 years since Scott registered this team: 87,828 (as of this post) Work Units completed, 40,043,808 Points, 165 Users (37 Active, 11 with over 1 Million Points each), and one of a handfull of threads on this board that has over 1,600 posts!

GO TEAM!

The SatGuys Folding Team is on the move!:up We leapfrogged two teams over the weekend. The next team in our sights is Xtreme Resources. We should pass them by the end of the week. 3.3 million points in the last four weeks.:D

Thanks Scott. Always nice to have some publicity and maybe grab a few more folders.

Now tomorrow when I get back to work, I can figure out what is going on there with my F@H clients, they seem to have gone AWOL.

Thanks for the Front Page highlight, Scott. Now you just need to get your PS/3 going again...

Hey, guys, I was trying to find a good home for the ATI HD4850 the I pulled from my son's Dell 4700, and I found this HP xw8200 Workstation w/Windows XP Pro over at geeks.com for $400. Some of the things that caught my eye were the dual 3.2 GHz Xeon processors, 4 GB of RAM, a 600W P/S, and Windows XP Pro license is included. Usually when I start piecing together a Folding platform, I run past $400 before I can call it done. This way, I figure it's a quick, but good solid platform that should hold up to the rigours of 24x7 Folding.

Thanks Scott I'm feeling the love now. :up As always SatelliteGuys.US proves once again what a great place it is on the web. Now hopefully we can add a few more folders.

Foxbat That is looking like a mighty good system/deal for the money.

Fold On..!!!

We'll find out. It's due to arrive this Friday. I did more research on the Xeon CPUs and found that while it is possible to upgrade them to a dual-core Xeon, the costs shoot way out of control. It would be cheaper to buy another box to double production than to retrofit the CPUs. One site had 6-core :)eek:) Xeons for $3,600 :)eek::eek:) that would yield a total of 12-way multiprocessing. While that might be fun to try the SMP version on, someone else can spend $8,000 to find out.

No, the big question will be: Put the ATI card in the xw8200 and let the GPU2 client suck down a 3.2 GHz CPU, or put the nVidia card in the xw8200? I'm leaning towards the later as using the Dell while Folding on the 9800GTX+ has noticeable screen lag. Also, since the CPU requirements aren't so extreme with the nVidia, I'm hoping to run an SMP Folding client on this box, too.

I gotta do something, 'cause Plazzman is breathing down my neck! ;) It's a three-way tie between SatinKzo, Plazzman, and me on who will reach 4,000,000 points first!

I just added 5 computers to the frey (though 3 are not runing while I am playing my games ;) )
Great news! Welcome to the SatelliteGuys.US Folding Team! (we need to get our own t-shirts now...)

I must warn you, though, Folding can be quite addicting...

Hey guys

My production has went down recently because I went to put my 2 8800Gs's in 1 rig and got a system 32 error so I had to fix that and now everything is up and running again. (making room for another card in another rig:D)

As Plazz would say, Fold on :):up

Voyager6, you must have realigned the warp coils and flushed the deuterium conduits! You're flying now, so far over 14K points today! Have you fired up a new Folder?

Wow, I'm really holding up the rear-end, aren't I? Anyone have a recommendation on a GPU for most PPD/$ spent?
