Join the SatelliteGuys Folding@Home Team!

I guess I now technically have a Folding Farm.

The GeForce 8800GS I picked up for $69.99 AR from Newegg arrived and it's now happily folding away in my budget box.

I may end up retiring my PS3 for power efficiency reasons (PPD/Watt can't compete with GPU), but my production should increase to > 7000ppd.

Good to hear you got an 8800GS. Mine produces 4500 ppd. It would be awsome if a few more members of the team would pickup one of these cards. For the price you cant lose.

I think the oddball 384MB of RAM killed it in the marketplace. The average consumer didn't realize that it was a mid-high-end card because everybody was putting 512MB of RAM on low-end cards 10x slower that could never use it.

The 8800GS is by far the most cost effective Folding GPU available, and it's a more than competent DX10 gaming card as well.

Well I'm going back to 5.92.

6.2 keeps messing up my work. Everytime it locks up at the end of a WU it corrupts the installation of FAH and I have to re-install FAH to get the error to go away I've lost 3 WU's in the past week

I keep having the same problem. Lots of NaN lockups, and then a lot of popups saying unrecoverable error occoured.

I guess I should go back to the old version as well.

Both of those give me the same error:

Are you guys using the GUI or the console/service version of the Windows clients? I use the console version set up as a service on the one PC I have Folding and it works fine. Unfortunately, the only multi-core Windows boxes I have at my disposal are at work, and Folding there that would be frowned upon...

I think I'll just give up folding my SMP until they get a new client out there.

I suspect you have tried this, but here goes,

Most of the people reprtomg success after failurem have had to remove everything the mpi software as well as all the registry entries and start from scratch. for anything installed for 5.92 smp and 6.22 smp, it's a pain but i did have to do that as i installed the wrong 6.22 client first.

good luck

Yup, went thru the registry and removed everything, still no luck. I actually went back to 5.91 and it seems to be working. (installed 6.22 non deino version, ran install.bat, then used the 5.91 executable). So far so good. What a mess 6.22 is. Oh well. Seems like there are a lot of bad WUs out there and 6.22 doesn't handle them properly.

I had a problem running the new 6.22 SMP client (MPI version) but then I deleted the following files in my FAH folder.

Delete the work file.
Delete the queue.dat file.
Delete the unitinfo file.
Also if you have the core82 in the folder, Delete that too.

My client has worked fine ever since.

Ugh, more NaN EUE on Project 2665 (Run 3, Clone 812, Gen 40).

Must be a lot of bad WU out there. 5.91 tried to grab it three times, first two times it stopped at 33%. Third time I noticed it rigth away, and killed it at 0% and delete the work and queue.dat, and it started up with a new WU.

Looking thru their forums, there is a ton of Project 2665 WUs that are bad. No wonder it seems like the new beta is horrible, when it is probably just a really bad batch of WUs!

That's too bad; my Macs love the 2665 WUs. :) (Maybe it's a Windows thing?)

Unfortunately, I grabbed an older Core A1 WU today when there were no Core A2 WUs available. I was able to finally upload the last P2665 I finished this afternoon, so I hope it was only a temporary blip with the Work Assignment Servers.

I didn't realize that my HP notebook was still Folding with the V6 beta until I did Windows Updates today and my CPU fan wasn't running. Yep, the date was past the beta cutoff, so I had to update. I use the FAH Windows service under Win XP Pro and it went in without a hitch.

It really sux that all these SatelliteGuys are having problems with their Folders. Even with Scorpion.sting cranking out 13K+ points per day, we're still not seeing all the WUs and Points we should be.

well, if IBM can get my new server working properly (nothing like being shipped with a bad MB) I'll hvae a couple quad-core 3.16 to add to the team for a month while I burn in the new system.

As I mentioned in the P/S thread that Scorpion.sting started, I've decided to put my old HP d325 minitower back to Folding duty by installing the GPU2 client. This box has a AGPx8 slot which can take the Sapphire ATI 3850, but the P/S wasn't designed for the load. Since Scorpy was looking for a 500W P/S, he got some good suggestions from our fellow SatelliteGuys. Navychop suggested Antec, so i checked out the Earthwatts P/S with their active power factor for a reasonable price. Newegg had the 435W version for $59.99, and the kicker was a $30 rebate. This should be more than adequate for the minimal system requirements and the Radeon 3850.

This should make more than make up for the loss of my HP notebook Folding clients. The notebook has been good for about 100 points per day, but the new 6.20 console client has problems with our Windows ISA proxy servers at work, so now I have to jump through hoops to get it to send and receive WUs.

Please read my PM.

I'm not so sure an AGP 3850 is suitable as a folding card for various reasons, especially on an older CPU as folding performance has been shown to be very CPU dependent on ATI.
