I bet Julio didn't single handily contribute to 16 wins at 45!
Hey, let's be fair to Hank. His wacky statement was that no pitcher should get paid as much as any REGULAR field player.
You're welcome sweetie...

UNLESS Moyer pitched to himself, ala Bugs Bunny...he had 8 fielders behind to HELP HIM win those 16 games. Julio was ALL ALONE in that batter box to push in those runs.

I guess Julio/Bugs Bunny was on base AND in the batter's box at the same time...
Sandra
Not wacky...I would rather pay 160 million to Mark Teixeira over Sabathia. I would rather pay A. Rod 200 million over Johana Santana if it came down to chosing between the two.
Pretty black and white....if it's the choice between the best hitter or the best pitcher....and one is not MORE desperately needed than the other....A hitter will always be the choice.
HDD did say that Moyer "SINGLE HANDEDLY" contributed to 16 wins....which one is it....did he single handedly do it or contributed to 16 wins...you really can't have both...
Well no, HDD didn't actually say that. But you could certainly make the argument Moyer's contributions had much more effect than Franco's.
Sandra
This is debatable, but a little more logical than your first statement. You said you would not pay ANY pitcher more than ANY field player.
See how silly that sounds now?
Sandra

Re-signing moyer was the best thing the Phillies could have done... even if he goes .500 he's still a hell of a pitching coach and helps the rest of the team out more than any of our official pitching coaches.

Nope...Why? Because I asure you that if Moyer does not have 8 guys behind him fielding the ball....he will NEVER, EVER win. Franco at the plate, EVEN with no one on base, he can STILL either win a game or continue an inning by getting on base so that someone else can win the game.
And Julio Franco that year was the best pinch hitter in the Majors. Moyer was not the best pitcher in the National League.
No....I know what I was trying to say and I might have not explained it properly...and those that did not initial knee-jerk reactions knew exactly what I was trying to say.
ANY pitcher that gets more money than an everyday player, is completely stupid and irresponsible.
These are the kind of statements that make people wonder if you watch much baseball. You don't use these type of examples for your little league team, do you?
This sounds like the logic of the hockey coach in the commercials on NHL network...and those are MEANT to be funny.
Of course...the best pinch hitter in the majors is MUCH more valuable than the second best pitcher in the majors...
Yikes.
Sandra
Well, here is that you said:
We all know what you're saying, no interpretation necessary.
