Houston Astros on hot water over illegally stealing signs

The thing that sounds weird if all this is factual, these are baseball players being traded around all the time, how could any organization expect to keep from getting caught? It's like committing a crime with multiple persons someone eventually talks.

It’s factual. You can read the full report here:

There was emails and a paper trail. This is not a conspiracy. It was rumored for a while that they were stealing signs just no smoking gun.

Are you mad that The Astros got caught or the fact that Manfred caught them?

Neither actually. Of course, empty suit Manfred never caught anyone at anything. Minor functionaries and the media “caught” the Astros in this trivial deal and the case came to this guy, who does not understand baseball nor like baseball. He reacted the way I would if asked to judge a physics competition. Since I don’t know much about physics, I would make it up as I went along. Since Manfred does not understand, nor like, baseball, he did the same.

Pitch clock, robot umpires, pitcher must face 3 batters (which is racist), universal DH, start extra inning with man on 2nd, destroy minor leagues, etc. etc. etc.

How much evidence is needed that this empty suit does not understand, nor like, this wonderful game?

We desperately need a pitch clock. That would speed up everything. How is the 3 batter thing racist? I'd love go see a universal DH, the NL is the only league in the world that still uses it.

You do realize that Manfred cannot just unilaterally impose rule changes, correct? That they're negotiated with the player's union and team ownership?

For example:

Earlier this year, MLB and the Players' Association (MLBPA) agreed to a number of rules changes for 2020. The most notable ones are:

  • Expanding the minimum stay on the injured list from 10 days to 15 days;
  • Expanding active rosters from 25 to 26 players; and
  • Instituting a new rule that required relief pitchers to face at least three batters or finish the half-inning.
Manfred was asked about the status of these rule changes. He responded:

"Yeah, all of those rule changes that you just referenced are in the agreement that we made with the Players Association last year at the owners' meeting. They were approved by the owners, and I fully expect all those rules will be operational in the 2020 season."
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred addresses 2020 rule changes, protective netting and more at Winter Meetings

Yeah, while I generally oppose the so-called union, it does have to approve the idiot ideas that those who don’t like baseball try to impose. The idiot changes outlined above were all he could get through, this time.

Specifically, of course, baseball is not “too long”. It is the same length it has always been. Nine innings. Then we come to the fundamentally ignorant, and racist, idea that managers should not be free to replace pitchers at any point. And the ignorance of the DH.

People that don’t like baseball, don’t like baseball. RM is one of them. Those who support his ignorant idea to change a game so perfect that it cannot be changed, don’t either.

They also need to keep the batter in the batters box. It seems like every pitch the batter steps out to adjust something.

Nine innings yes, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that the games are taking longer and longer to play those nine innings each year:

How much of that extra hour of average game time has been added by commercials? How much has been added by replay? How much has been added by the incessant stepping out? How much has been added by multiple pitching changes? I imagine in 46 there was less of all four. Of course I’m too young to remember.

We DON'T need a pitch clock ....
Universal DH, I'd be good with that, its time has come ....
The rest of the stuff is just thinking out loud to see what others think I believe.

He's still better than the last one.

He's still better than the last one.

Selig was a bad commissioner. Almost every decision he made was the wrong decision, from Pete Rose to steroids to not staying the course and, as the NHL did, breaking the so-called union, to not tossing Angelos out of the sport, to over-expanded playoffs to starting them at 8:30 at night.

But Selig liked baseball. He was a baseball guy. Manfred is just some lawyer whose firm happened to represent MLB. Butterfly effect and his firm gets a different client and this guy probably never even attends a baseball game. He does not understand baseball. He does not like baseball. For a person to actually think that a game can be “too long” is a sure sign of that. More is better, not worse.

DH for all would change not only strategy but how the NL teams are built. Might as well go to the automatic strike zone while they're at it.
I don't really have a problem if the game is to be changed lets not half-a$$ it,

The DH gives older players a change to still play. NL teams are at disadvantage with interleague in AL parks as they are not built with a true DH. The flip side is AL teams are at a disadvantage in NL parks. The main reason I hate the pitcher hitting is the higher risk of pitcher injury.

Robo umps are coming, it was agreed to in the new bargaining agreement.
