Is This Possible?

Id like to get a clarification on a earlier post of mine. A friend and I both have the same HD ready tv's(Toshiba 50hdx82) and the same off air HD receivers(RCA DTC100). He has D* and says he has a basic standard D* receiver. His set up is the feed from the sat goes into his D* receiver, then into the RCA then into the tv. He says (during Football Season) he calls up D* and orders the HD package and he gets it with his existing equiptment. Is this possible? I am looking at E* and was told that this is not possible with out one of their HD receivers.

The rca dtc100 is a D* HD receiver. It can also get SD programming.

I did not know that, guess thats why it works. I hope its ok to ask this here, but are there any older E* HD receivers I could look for on Ebay?
