iOS 18, what did you think?

What possible value could it have?
A valid question. There is a novelty to it, which I don't really need or desire, but I thought I'd try the Genmoji feature to create custom emojis in iMessages. Like this, after the Indianapolis Colts just flipped a switch and turned off their good football skills:
"sad fox wearing a Colts football helmet"

They can leave it off of my phone
Fortunately, it’s Opt-in at this time. And, if your iPhone isn’t a 15 Pro or 16, it’s not even an option.

You can try it out and if it isn’t what you like, you can turn if off in Settings:

PSA: iOS 18.2.1 came out today (as well as iPadOS 18.2.1). I didn’t have an update for my AppleTV 4K or Apple Watch. I didn’t check macOS yet.

And now I can’t print from my iPhone anymore. 8 yo HP. Coincidence?
This post was in a Windows thread, so I’m answering here in the iOS thread since it’s iPhone-related.

What model HP printer do you have? My one old HP LaserJet CP1518n came out one year before HP supported AirPrint so I ended up configuring CUPS on one of my Linux boxes to provide AirPrint compatibility with that printer. I eventually replaced this old HP since they stopped providing security firmware updates. It also had driver issues with the M-series Macs, so I grabbed a new Canon Color Laser printer that works much better as well as natively supporting AirPrint.

Back to you, does SWMBO also have an iPhone or iPad? Can it print to this printer? Does this HP printer have a web management page that you could check to see AirPrint accidentally got disabled? And:

No AirPrint.

Also froze shutting down. Gave it 20+ minutes and then did a power cord reset.

Rest- tomorrow. I think it’s 8 years old. Prints fine from PC.

If that’s all you want you do, then that’s fine. If the inability to AirPrint is going to annoy you, there are plenty of inexpensive ink jet printers that will AirPrint as well as work with Windows 10/11.

Me, personally, I gave up ink jet printers after dealing with dried ink cartridges because I didn’t print enough (of course, that’s before I enrolled in Medicare). A good color laser printer will set you back $250-350, but should have enough toner to print a few thousand pages before you need to worry about paying for toner.

Another option is an ink tank inkjet printer. Those don’t dry up and the ink can be good for several years. The ink bottles are about $16 each for the four inks (the Canon Pixma-series prices from Canon). The initial cost is more than the cheaper cartridge printers but you more than make up the difference if you have to purchase a few cartridges after the first two years.
