Is there such a thing to start with (not locals but some of the other channels)? If so what are they and what is the prices? The Dish web site is not exactly a fountain of information on this subject.

According to Scott's latest rumour alert, the TurboHD packages will be staying around, but will be renamed as followed:

Dish America Bronze ($29.99/mo)

Country Music TV
Discovery
Disney Channel
ESPN
ESPN2
ESPNews
Food Network
HD Theater
HDNet
HGTV
History
Lifetime
Palladia
SyFy
Spike
TBS
TLC
TNT
Travel Channel
USA
Weather Channel

Dish America Silver ($39.99/mo)
Animal Planet
Big Ten Network
Bravo
CBS College Sports
Disney XD
Golf Channel
Lifetime Movie Network
NFL Network
WGN America

Dish America Gold ($49.99/mo)
Biography
Encore
Hallmark Movie Channel
National Geographic Channel
Planet Green
Science Channel

Versus

I think they have been calling all HD channels by the name HD Platinum. At least that is the service that appears on my bill for HD (I have the classic silver package)

No. Platinum is an extra set of channels over and above your service tier, which would be Bronze, Silver, or Gold. Dish screwed up when they decided to name tiers and packages with metals. It's easy to get confused, which is why they're going back to the America's Top scheme.
