IF Barry Bonds were white, would be hated as much??

by the way cut the if he took roids or alledgedly took roids. He took them. Admitted to a grand jury. Claimed he thought they were flaxseed oil. He took the clear and the cream. So from now on just know that he admitted to taking roids.
You and Curt Schilling must hang together. He never admitted to taking steroids. He admitted to using the clear and the cream, but claimed he didn't know they contained steroids. Subtle difference, but a difference nonetheless.

I hate Barry Bonds, dislike for non-pit members:p , it's not because he's black, not because of "roids", because he's a jerk.
I'll agree, except Barry Bonds is not even a passing through in my mind...complete indiference, even with his hall of fame numbers. Bonds has no one to blame but himself for his Clintonesque legacy.

Seriously, would anyone be tossing around the race card if it were someone like Clemente or Stargell who were breaking the record? Hell no! These guys were men of character and the fans (even the Pirate haters) loved them. Mr. Bonds would be enjoying this moment---fan adoration and respect---if he weren't a cheese-dick.

As far as the Clemens/McClain reference. I was thinking more about the the time when he was still playing for Detriot. McClain wasn't considered part of the team by the rest of the team. He was able to fly to away games in his own plane. Get there last minute pitch and leave.

McClain did manage to destroy his and his family's lives, and most saidly the lives of many others.
My grandmother adored Denny McLain because he played the organ. I couldn't stand Denny McLain because my grandmother made me play the organ wile talking about Denny.:(

I was grinning ear-to-ear when McLain stepped on his crank and later wound up in prison. My organ lessons stopped and my grandmother never mentioned Denny McLain again.:)

You obviously don't understand a rhetorical, sarcastic question. And in case YOU missed it, read my second post.

We crosses but your post is not correct. Bonds claims that he did not know it at the time but he does not deny that the were steroids. If you want to say that he did not take them knoingly fine but son't say that he did not take them.

I challenge you to point out where I said he didn't take them. I said that he never admitted to taking them as you claim. He admitted to using the cream and the clear, saying that he was unaware that they contained steroids. There IS a difference - in fact, that's what this whole Greg Anderson thing is all about. They're trying to get him to say that Bonds KNOWINGLY took steroids.

If they items had steroids there is no difference. Again you can claim that he did not know it at the time---although the calim is illogical but fine. But he knows now what he took. What difference does it make if he knew it at the time/ If an Olympian tested positive but calimed he did not knoew what they were would he be able to keep his medals? Why point to the lack of a positive test (none were given during that period) unless it somehow proves something?

But if we all now agree that he did take them thre is nothing left to discuss----and personally I don't believe that eh did not know it at the time---but that is my opinion.

Now you're talking apples and oranges. My point was whether or not he ADMITTED to taking them, not whether or not he took them. His claim is not illogical at all. Now, it might be untrue, but it's definitely not illogical. And it's not what I claim, rather it's what HE claims. Besides, if baseball isn't going to ostracize Jason Giambi, who DID admit that he took steroids, then why should they go after Bonds?

Well, Clemente was from South America, but the point is they're both non-white and quite beloved in Pirate lore. It shows how self-centered Bonds is that he had no clue of the teams history. The race card has no validity in Bond's situation.

SOUTH AMERICA??!! Are you NUTZ...??!! He was from MY HOME TOWN of Carolina, Puerto Rico!!! SOUTH AMERICA......come one now....

I think if Barry WAS white it would be different...one example...Roger Clemens. Here is a guy that has practically called his contract....does not have to travel with the team if he is not pitching...does NOT have to stay in the same hotel...he does NOT have to even travel on the SAME PLANE as the rest of the team!! Now, don't get me wrong, his agent worked out a deal that ANY OF US WOULD TAKEN in a heart beat....tell me, if Bonds had worked out that deal....wouldn't HE be DISLIKED EVEN MORE???!!! Why does Roger get a pass? I mean, he is NOTORIOUS for being an a$$h***. I remember a few times dealing with him when I worked in Chicago. And....Curt Schilling is not too far behind....

I like Clemons and Shilling, don't really care that much for Bonds, I can take him or leave him.
I did like Bonds when he was in Pittsburgh, I think I started not liking him when he decided he was too good for Pittsburgh and left.
They could have had a very good team for a while with Bonds and Bonilla, but that was another generation ago.

This is exactly why most black people view the treatment of Bonds as racist. If anyone followed McGwire's career from when he broke in in '87 until his heyday in St. Louis, you had to have noticed the astounding physical transformation and known that he was on something. Yet, nobody said a damned thing. Even when he was caught red-handed with the steroid precursor, androstenedione, the majority white media just laughed it off. People also had to have noticed how quickly and vehemently the media tried to discredit Jose Canseco when he came out with his allegations. And by several accounts, and confirmed by the post above, McGwire was as big an a$$hole with the media as Bonds was until Sammy Sosa convinced him to lighten up and enjoy life. Yet, the difference between how McGwire was treated and how Bonds is treated now is astounding, yet not surprising. So, in conclusion, all those talk show hosts and columnists who claim to not understand why most blacks view Bonds' treatment as racist; they're either being disingenuous or stupid.

YES!!! :up Well this post has fell on deaf ears. Oh yea what about Jason Giambi do we still like this cheater? Is MLB going after him?

Ahhh....see, I forgot ALL about Giambi!! Funny, when Canseco made his allegations about "approx. 50% were using SOME KIND of performacing drug"...they all laughed at him...yet in the end...WHO ended up having THE MOST credibility??!!

The OTHER guy that people LOVED to hate, Jose Caseco....

He was "caught redhanded" with a legal substance. Have you ever taken Ibuprofen? Basically the same thing. Ibuprofen is a steroid. It reduces inflammation. That is what androstenedione does.

Sosa never convinced Mac of anything. Sosa was more than happy to give an interview to anyone who wanted one. Mac never was comfortable giving interviews and just wanted to be left alone to do his job. Sosa was the darling of all the sportswriters because he gave them all the quotes they wanted, and they were continually upset with Mac because he wouldn't talk to them. Sosa also played up his underdog role during, with the bulk of the pressure going to Mac, who was expected to hit a home run every time he came to bat. Once again, going by my own criteria as to what makes a hero, McGwire set up a foundation in which he was the only one allowed to contribute. Since McGwire set up a foundation, and got good press on it, Sosa also set up a foundation. McGwire contributed $100,000 to Sosa's foundation, which was $100,000 more than Sosa contributed to his own foundation.

McGwire was treated well by the the fans during that home run race, but he has never been treated well by the sportswriters. And this past year they really had their chance to get back at him in the Hall of Fame voting.

I noticed that Jose did NOT publish this book until he was OUT of the game.
Coincidence ????
Hardly

Had he been still playing when someone brought out this book, he would have denied it entirely.

Angel that he is

Come on Jim...OF COURSE he was going to do it AFTER he was out of the game. Hell, he would have lead THE WORLD in HBPs. Look, let's be honestly, regardless of when he came out with the book....he was right, whether YOU or I like him or not...and believe, living in Miami...there is NOTHING worse than a know-it-all Cuban WHEN HE IS RIGHT!!! LMAO....:D (I can say these things because I am married to one!....;) )

OK. I see your point now, I had forgot all about that private jet crap. Tigers made a great trade getting rid of that a$$hole.

Didn't Canseco lead the league in HBF (hit by flyballs - remember the shot that bounced off his head into the stands for a homerun?)

So, are we all agreed, every player listed in this thread is pretty much an a$$hole?

Put up Clemens' and McGwire's rookie cards with their current and end-of-career cards, respectively - then tell me what the difference is.

I think Clemens and McGuire took "roids", you're preaching to the f***ing choir. Do you think I'm that f***ing delusional that I don't think they took "roids"?
