From Earl at DBSTalk it looks like there could be a CE rollout for the HR20-700 Tommorow and Saturday Night.

http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=85640

NOTE: This is for the HR20-700 Only;
The HR20-100 is not part of this CE

Window of opportunity to download:
Friday; May 25, 2007 11PM - 2:30AM ET
Saturday; May 26, 2007 11PM - 2:30AM ET
Time and availability subject to change
Please monitor the threads, 40% chance the CE will happen... but until it does... anything can change.

Remember only grab CE's if you dont mind some bugs, as this is not fully tested software.

This update 0x16? will introduce the new GUI new look (white). It is MOST important that DBSTalk get's feedback on it. These Beta releases are not
supported by D*, so you should join Earl's CE forum for any help if it should
"brick" your box. CSR's will NOT be able to help you. FWIW...

okay, guys, this is already been in beta as was discussed during the first quarter webcast. chase carey said the launch date is sometime this summer. yes, i know the press release said july. but that info was released, like 2 months ago or so!

You're assuming VOD will launch on time. ;)
Also assuming they will roll VOD to the CE community. I would assume they will but you never know.

Hints have been out there that VOD has been in internal beta test for a while so we may see it soon.

Some things to keep in mind

What you need to know about the CE testing (from DBSTalk):

These versions that will be "exposed", have only gone through "moderate" testing. Not the entire cycle. There is an INCREASED chance that a major bug may exist in the version... There is a chance of DECREASED performance. There is a chance that the entire unit may just stop working...

While that is not the goal of any version "offered", as any of you software developers know.. .that is why you test, even for the tinest of changes... you still have to test it.

SO, I WANT TO MAKE IT CRYSTAL CLEAR about what it means to "download" a cutting edge version...

If you download it... there are no guarantees of anything.

You should NOT download a CE version, just to "try it out"
You should NOT download a CE version, just because it has a "feature"
You should NOT download a CE version, just to "see" it

You shoud ONLY download a CE version, if you know what you are doing and are 100% willing to take the risk. Risk = Reward.

If you have ZERO desire to deal with the RISK involved. DO NOT force the download.

In other words, download it only if you want to test and don't mind having new bugs or possible missing recordings and such. :)

actually, i'm not assuming vod will launch on time. carey said in the first quarter website that it would be sometime this summer. he also said it was currently being beta tested.

i mentioned the press release from a few months ago because i recall it said a july launch. however, the company ceo said three weeks ago....sometime this summer!

Hints have been out there that VOD has been in internal beta test for a while so we may see it soon.

There was a fairly stong 'hint' that it was in beta testing when someone posted screen shots on another site from their own unit showing some of the VOD screens. I've seen July and summer mentioned as dates for availability. Well July isn't here yet and summer goes until late September so they're not late yet;)

I have seen the VOD, it knocks the socks off what Dish has planned. Too bad when I saw it I didn't have a camera.

It is an exciting time. :)
