HOPPER SNAP

Got back from out of town yesterday afternoon and was more than pleasantly surprised to find a "SNAP" in the mailbox (thank you Scott!). After unpacking stuff and catching up I decided to plug it into my HWS (HWS/Super Joey). Last week I had updated the software to U715 in hopes of maybe getting one.
The SNAP was immediately recognized and told me it was installed and ready to go. I went into the diagnostic screen and confirmed that it was there.
On the HWS I played with all the menus/DVR/etc. I then pulled up the guide and paged up and down through it. What a difference!! Everything is lightning fast now where before it was sluggish and stuttering. Great job on this little device Dish .
I then went to the SJ and ran thru the same scenario that I did on the HWS. The menus and guide are faster than they were previously but no where near as fast as the HWS. There is still some stuttering when paging through the guide. All other menus are very adequate for a good user experience. Not sure why but I guess it could do with the processing power of the SJ itself.
Overall a great update and I'm glad that Dish had the foresight to look into something like this to speed up the H1/H2 receivers.

I wonder if the Super Joey was considered at all when designing the SNAP. I'd bet the population of them is fairly small these days.

My current feedback... Wow! Just Wow.

Menus and scrolling on my HWS are lightning fast. Changing channels is quicker, the audio is almost instantaneous. My 4k Joey menus are faster than before as well.

I already had 715 on my HWS, so install was easy. I did, just to start with a clean boot, pull the power cord, install the SNAP and energize the HWS. It started up and did that (not a full) brief restart and then said the SNAP was installed.

I'm a very satisfied and thankful tester.

I received mine today. Quite a difference on menu and guide speed on the HWS. A somewhat less pronounced (but still noticeable difference on the Joeys. No negative effects noticed but Ijhave seen issues solved by and created by the nightly guide download. So we will see. I will report again later in the week.

BTW my wife was amused by the address label. I am not sure which member of the Greczkowski family was responsible but it took my wife about 5 minutes to recover.

BTW just a FYI, for those who got one, keep on watching for updates as they are fine tuning things with each software update, so things like your Joey 2, Super Joeys etc will improve with each release.

Next update is supposed to roll out within a week or so.

Will do! It will be interesting to see if any of the updates improve the menus on the Super Joey..

When I came home today and looked in my mailbox, I was greeted with an envelope from Scott and it did indeed contain a Snap module. Thank you very much Scott, I thought I had no chance at getting one of the eight you received.

That said, I installed it and nothing really happened because I don't believe my HWS recognized the Snap module, I suppose I need to be on U715, is that correct? I'm currently on U714 so I forced an update and it actually showed a software download in progress but my software remains U714. I assume it will update overnight. Also I understand, the diagnostics page will show the Snap module as being present, right?

When I plugged the Snap in, it went in rather easily (I would have preferred a snug fit) so thinking that might be a problem I used a short UBS extension cable.. same result.

I'll wait until tomorrow and see if I have the U715 and try again. Is that about right?

You will need U715 for sure. Unplug that SNAP before trying to update...

It took 3 upgrade attempts over 2 days before U715 showed up on my primary H2. When I checked our other H2, it already had it. Go figure...

Tested the Snap with my Joey 1. I am pleasantly surprised with the Joey's performance. Worked near as well with basic tests that I ran on the Hopper on Sunday Night. I have not checked any software versions on the Joey. I just know it's not a placebo effect, as the Joey 1 was near inoperable for basic channel surfing and guide surfing. I would only use my Joey to watch games, as I knew that I didn't have to change channels. I was able to channel surf and guide surf near equal on the Joey as I can with the Hopper, with the Snap attached to the Hopper.
