I thought we had a thread or posts on this, but I can't find them.

Which BT keyboards work with FB on the Hopper? And are there other uses for same?

Installer today strongly suggested I get one, to keep SWMBO happy.

Anyone know of any good choices - or bad ones?

I assume no mousing as yet.

I was actually waiting for a response on this from our internal forum. I was right, currently the Blue Tooth only supports audio devices. There was nothing noted on if keyboard will be supported in the future in the response.

And post all the good news that comes out!

Suppo,

How are you liking the Hopper? Being a VIP holdout also, what are your first impressions?

I am quite happy. I had a ViP722 with a bad fan (just left cover off) and a few burps from both ViP722s now and then. What pushed me to move was the price increase. I realized that if I converted now, and returned the two leased Joeys, my bill would actually go down. At least for as long as the grandfathering lasts.

I think the PQ is better. I don't know how, I can only guess better chips. And Dish Anywhere, so far at least, appears to be working better with the two HWS than it did with the Sling Adapter and either ViP722 (I moved it back and forth). I haven't had any failures to connect, no dropped connections, and only one pause since the HWS install.

The icons on the left of the screen guide are nice. The overall appearance and dialog boxes is more professional and up to date.

The control method is way different. My fingers keep wanting to press the DVR button two or three times, but they'll learn. ;) The layout of the menu and the steps needed to accomplish any particular action are completely different, a entirely new approach. The new ideas on the customer interface are good. I still would prefer a list option for DVR and EHD listings. But I really must say that the identifying picture icons with the number of shows by that title displayed on the icon is very nice, and make for finding what you're looking for quicker - until you get too many pages to scroll thru. Hence, the list option request, for better management of large numbers of programs. BTW, I don't use the colored keys; I find going thru the menu steps clear enough and quick enough.

The icons and two dimensional movement of the "pointer" or highlighted selection will benefit greatly from a pointing device other than the simple arrow keys. A BT keyboard & pointing device are hopefully high on the list of enhancements that Dish is considering. We haven't used the apps yet, but once there's a working keyboard/pointer option, I know my wife will be onto FB in no time. Actually, we have used the Weather app. Jury is still out on how useful it is. If the TV is already on, it'd be quick enough. But otherwise, we'd just whip out the iPhone or iPad for quicker info.

The inability to move programs from EHD to internal DVR HDD is disappointing. And yes, there's something buggy about correctly displaying your folders when you try to do this. Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon.

While watching a program from a EHD, if you pause it, pressing PLAY does not resume the program. I hit the skip back and it does, and plays from that point. And yes, the skip fwd/back problems are still with us.

Not everyone has the same bugs. And I don't mean to sound complaining. I am glad we made the move. The OTA tuner module just arrived today and I haven't connected it yet, so I can't comment on that- maybe later.

In fact, I am very glad we made the move, and so is my wife.

It's quite easy to move from an EHD to your Internal had drive. Just go to the Menu and select External Hard Drive. Just click the the From and To and it will bring up the shows on you're EHD and you can select which ones to move to the internal drive.

You should be able to move the content from your EHD to the internal hard drive. Are you seeing an error message or whats going on?

Yes, you are quite correct. I rushed that post and left off that there is another way to move items, that usually works. I can transfer using your method. My Living Room HWS is a LOT faster at transfers than my Master Bedroom HWS, but I suspect that is because the one in the bedroom is hooked up thru a powered USB hub, along with another EHD. I expected the LR HWS to be slower, because it is a RAID.

Here, in more detail, is the "failure mode:"

Press the DVR button. Select External Device. Select the title you want to move, and choose EDIT from the pop up selections provided. Then choose which folder you want to send it to. The list of choices which appears does not usually (ever?) show all actual folder choices. And when I select a folder, say "Military" it comes up "Bones," which was not on the selection list, but is in fact a valid folder. Then, whether you choose CANCEL or SAVE, nothing happens. Nothing is moved.

Or you could press DVR, Select External Device, then EDIT from the top line, then select several programs, each will be marked with a blue checkmark, and go to EDIT ACTIONS. You'll probably only see Delete as an option. But similar to the above, a multi-move with a single command would go well here.

Obviously, those folder selections options indicate an intended method to move around programs. A more logical way, to my thinking. Hopefully we will see this one day.

Oh, and that "usually works " comment above? Sometimes I can Menu/External HD and only get the option of transferring from the Hopper to the External HD (1 or both of them). Or it only shows the Hopper under "From" and nothing under "To." Quite odd. But backing out and going back in one or more times brings up the correct options.

I will add one more thing:

I'd like to be able to search for, for example, "Mystery Diners" episode 25 and record JUST that episode. Easy to do on the ViP722. On the Hopper, I haven't been able to figure out how. I get only the options of "record new" or "record new and all episodes" or some such. Not good. Have I overlooked something? Please?

To answer my own question, for the benefit of others, just use the SEARCH function. Then you can pick which individual shows to record.

Hmmm. I see my choice of words could be misleading.

To record just the ones you want from a list, go to MENU then SEARCH. The SEARCH button on the remote actually sends you to the SEEK AND RECORD function, which will NOT let you pick and choose. If you go that route, you can still scroll thru the schedule and skip/restore episodes as you see fit. But if you only want a very few selected episodes, the MENU/SEARCH approach is better.
