Every EHD should always have its own power supply.With the Hopper, you can have multiple EHDs connected at the same time. So that would be a case when every EHD having its own power supply would be a plus.

Self-powered setups are typically cheaper than USB-powered drives anyway. Why spend more and increase your risk of trouble (or not working at all)???
Most of the multi-drive docks are set up as some manner of RAID, so that's not a suitable solution.I was referring to having one (powered) dock and several drives to insert therein.

Does Dish Support RAID? With that much video stored, it would make it less risky.
