I have two HWS. One is controlled by a Harmony One, the other a Harmony 880. Both have been programmed with the set of Echostar Hopper codes, with some customized tweaks.

I like the bottom left button to be DVR. I set this on the One via IR learning before discovering LIST was the Harmony name for DVR. So the 880 just got the database code.

I like the bottom right button to be SEARCH. Here's where it gets interesting. The Harmony database SEARCH in fact is SEEK & RECORD, just as it is on the Hopper remote. The function I want is the SEARCH option you get after pressing MENU. Since Harmony no longer supports macros, I can't figure out how to accomplish this. It seems impossible.

Yes, I've also programmed the touch screen for these functions. I'm just used to pressing those bottom buttons and want both options in both places.

Am I missing something? Is there a way to program a Harmony button for the MENU/SEARCH function?

Navychop, are you using the original Harmony Remote Software website or the newer My Harmony? I use the original and have set Search as one of my touchscreen options. It works just like you want it to without having to go to Menu, and scroll down to Search. In my case when I select the activity Watch TV, the first 6 touchscreen options are DVR(List renamed), LiveTV, Red, Green, Yellow, Blue. On the second screen I have Search as my top left touchscreen selection.

I also use an 880 with my Hopper. (in fact, I have also always programmed the DVR to the bottom left button. :))

I'm not 100% sure I'm following you on the different "search" commands. I pulled out my Hopper remote to check, and whether I go to Menu/Search or just hit the Search button on the Hopper remote (the key in the center just below the large channel down button), I get the same search screen. Admittedly I have the original Hopper, not a HWS. For my 880, I configured a button on my lcd screen to that button by using the learning function, if memory serves. Assuming you are trying to do the same, you should be able to "learn" that button from the Hopper remote as well and apply it to any key you want, rather than using the database code, if it isn't doing what you want.

YUM!

Well, there's a bit more to the Hopper learning curve for me. If I press the SEARCH button on the remote, the screen that comes up has the SEEK & RECORD green button bright and available. If I select it, I get the option to record new, or all. Not pick episodes. <clears throat> We'll get back to that.

If I press MENU and drop one row down and press SEARCH I get a similar screen, but the green SEEK & RECORD button is dim, non selectable. I notice now that if I type a letter, it brightens. I was thinking this approach was the only one that allowed me to select individual episodes for recording by typing in a search term, then going to the icons.

Turns out, on either screen (yes, it's the same screen because the SEARCH button approach always fills the search box and makes the green button bright) all I have to do is scroll right to the icon area, pick an icon and it will then list all episodes and I can pick and choose.

I was just making it harder than it is. SIGH.

Thanks to all for your posts and forebearance.

Is this a bad time to ask that we be able to type in a show name and specify that only episode X gets recorded, if none of the displayed episodes includes episode X? ;)
