FOX News Channel/DISH dispute

Well, I care, and I miss FNC, but I'll survive it until the dispute is settled...

You're right, but I'd like to add that the alternatives I've been forced to watch are, in comparison, extremely boring and sappy. I watch both Fox and Friends and Imus (delayed to skip ads and business news) on FBN. Afternoon and evening Shepard Smith (Liberal with a balanced show), Neil Cavuto (balanced Business news), The Five (balanced and entertaining), Bret Baier (balanced and most professional and informative evening news), Greta Van Susteren (Liberal with a balanced show), Bill OReilly (independent informative), Megan Kelly (hides her views but goes after everyone for in depth stories), and I don't usually stay up for Hannity (very Conservative but lets both sides speak). The daytime programming is very balanced professional news magazine content except for the new Outnumbered which tends to emphasize Conservative views. Most evenings we switch to watching recorded series.

There is a disappointing vacuum out there now, without the professionalism and content (and entertainment) of Fox News and FBN. I doubt that the naysayers here have spent much time watching.

I hope that this doesn't last long, the alternatives are depressing.

Some will drop with Fox, sure. But few of those people are the big spenders demographically.

Look at the demographics. The Fox viewers (while plenty) are NOT the type of folks who subscribe to premium services and ad ons. These are the services that Dish makes money off of.

Prove it! That sounds more like the liberal followers stance, lol. Is there that big of a difference between FNC and CNN subs? They are both in at120, right?

Your bias is showing.

Please stop with the hate speech......You only prove my points that scott has removed.....sigh

I watch Varney&Co on the Fox Business channel, Cavuto, The Five and Bret Baier and thats it for Fox ... I tried (really) to watch CNN for a few minutes and MSNBC for a few seconds (almost threw up) ... Newsmax is interesting but it's not in HD and very distracting to watch ... otherwise the tv is off and I'm online ... I think I'm going through withdrawal ... and everything else on my Dish service sucks .. of the 200 so called stations they offer (that's the package my son pays for) I'd get rid of about 90% of them - especially any sports crap, spanish crap, reality crap, cooking crap, and of course my favorite syfy (csi marathon?wtf)

I'm really bummed about the Fox loss, albeit (hopefully) temporarily, hope it returns soon.

My wife is also bummed, not because she likes Fox, but because she claims I'm spending too much time in my car listening to Fox, channel 114, on Sirius!

With the disputes with CNN and Fox News I'm very surprised with how many people spend a tremendous amount of time watching news.

I'm with you on that. I watch maybe an hour sum total in any given day. Anything more than that is mostly repeats of what you heard/watched earlier in the day, or one talking head after another proposing some fairly bogus point of view and stretching points along the way. My son is one of those that will watch all day if he had the chance, I find it both funny and sad.

Here is a link for Fox video.....

To bad that most MSM outlets you can watch your favorite shows after they air..... Fox for whatever reason dose not Let there loyal viewers watch reruns....

The only time I will have it on for an extended amount of time is when there is something big going on that I want to keep up on. I can see having it on at work all day. I use to have MSNBC on and listen to that occasionally and keep an eye on the stock market but that was more business related than for real news. I always hated when my dad would come home from work when I was little and he would turn off my cartoons so he could watch CNN for the rest of the night. I thought it was the most boring thing ever.

You seem surprised by the most common things that we see and hear every day in the field and at the office. We see many, many houses that have news or business channels on the TV all day long. Usually that news is Fox but often it's CNN. I know you say you haven't gotten any calls and that none of your customers seem to care but that is exactly the opposite that we see here. Playing down this fiasco isn't making it any better. Fox News is one of the main channels people get satellite TV for around here. We're gonna get a hefty charge back on one customer who's only been a Dish customer a few months and is thoroughly pissed about CNN gone for one of those months and now the Fox News / Fox Business outage. He has already cancelled and gone to cable. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Yes, ESPN would result in a massive drop in prices - and subscribers. You seem to miss this point, people will drop off massively w/o ESPN. It is a staple and it is what it is.

There appears to be a misunderstanding, I was agreeing with you.

I know it's different everywhere else. I try to make sure that people know that I'm just talking about my area and that I'm not speaking for everyone. If there are that many people that have the news on all day then that makes a lot of sense as to why some people are they way they are. No wonder some people are so paranoid and so one sided, they watch the same news people every day and listen to what the media tells them. So many strongly opinionated people based on certain politics and beliefs.

Hate speech?

You should really read who is saying what...

And you posting a Fox and Friends clip trying to bash the station clearly my proves the "faux" haters out there do not know what they are talking about.

Have a merry Xmas.

So doctor, you proclaim that anybody who watches the news or business channels all day has something wrong with them? Your psycho-analysis is ridiculous. I guess you'd rather watch Jerry Springer or the Young and the Restless all day?

Get real, please. Playing down all these channel outages is not doing Dish any favors. These are real problems and are costing Dish and it's dealers real money and real customers. Period. It's that simple. It needs to get settled and the more folks keep saying that it's not a problem and that customers don't care the longer it's going to drag out.

I won't speak to "Doctor Scherman's" point of view, but I would say from mine, if you are watching a single channel all day every day, then you might need to re-evaluate what is going on. And I don't care what channel that might be.

But yes, these are real problems we're facing and I certainly don't claim to have the answer. But as the content providers keep wanting to fatten their wallet, the delivery guys wanting to fatten theirs too, and all want it to come out of 'my' pocket. And with the rates climbing much faster than inflation, some are going to be deciding how important keeping the cable/sat is. And if they or I decide to let them go, how important am I going to allow TV to be in my life. IOW, if I'm going to lose current TV by cutting the cord, then is watching all those shows really worth it at all?

It's kind of like when someone complains about their bill and the stock answer is reduce your subscription level. At what level does it become not worth anything at all?? :)

I agree, while we have seen some changes to the model, there will have to be other changes I think for Direct, Dish and others to continue I think, not sure when the changes will occur but one day they will have to

It is rather amazing to me that this channel dispute has generated so much dissension between people. Being unabashedly politically incorrect, I admit that I watch Fox News. It's surprising to me that people who dislike Fox News find my views so distasteful. So what if enjoy Fox News over CNN or (*choke*) MSNBC? I would like the channel that I prefer to watch for news returned to Dish's line-up, that's all. If you don't like Fox News, fine. Watch CNN or something else. Don't condemn others for their news preferences...

Your bias is showing.

Grow up.

I am in advertising and I see the number and I know the numbers. The demographic of Dish Network's subscribers at the lower end are cheap folks who won't buy crap. Advertisers know this. Your absolute denial shows that the truth hurts.

The demographics of ESPN are much greater. The typical audience (especially on the weekends during college football) represents the highest buying power in America. The demographics here are solid. You can complain all you want. Look it up, it's generally available data.

ESPN demographics of "typical viewer": http://espn.go.com/mediakit/research/demographics.html

Fox News demographics of "typical viewer": http://www.nationaltvspots.com/imag...rkDemographicsDetail/FOXnews-Demo-Details.jpg

ESPN "typical viewer" 87% has a college degree. Fox News - 38% have "some college" Wow.

ESPN "typical viewer" age: 29. Fox News: 56

Median Household Income of "typical viewer" ESPN: $72K Fox News: $55k

You can complain about the hard data all you want. The people at the lower end of the spectrum on Dish do not buy squat. Dish is also not making much money off these folks either.

You want to go toe to toe with CNN and Fox? They are comparable: http://www.nationaltvspots.com/imag...etworkDemographicsDetail/CNN-Demo-Details.jpg The demographics for MSNBC are a little different mix, a little more college and about the same income and age.

The reality says the news channel viewers are not in the coveted demographic profile.

When picking data to compare, use the same source for both if possible. I notice you didn't in this case, but when I use nationaltvspots data... ESPNs numbers are quite a bit different. (Which BTW point out how this data is VooDoo in nature sometimes).

IE: According to National TV Spots, only 48% of ESPN viewers attended "some college". Not "87% have a degree" (that data is not within nationaltvspot's data... I don't know how 87% have a degree when only 48% even attended college?).
