I did not watch the Sci-Fi version because of some bad reviews from SF fans...

I enjoyed the David Lynch film (it was only produced by De Laurentis), it has a terrific cast, and excellent photography.

Lynch has disavowed the film, because the studio cut vast portions of it.

It's too bad that they did not wait a few years... the story is that the first screenplay was over 9 hours in length, and so they brought in new screenwriters to cut it down to a 2-3 hour length, because that is what works in a theater.

Nowadays, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings have paved the way for 9 hour films (aired in 3 parts), but back in 1984, it was inconceivable.
 
Ah, I stand corrected...David Lynch.

I agree, had they done the version that Frank Herbert (RIP) helped script, it probably would've been amazing, but even Herbert didn't like what ended up on the screen (and neither did most fans who'd read the books first).

That's why I enjoyed the Sci-Fi mini-series versions more (despite a few issues, it's still quite good). The extended box-set of the first mini is very good.

I like the Lynch version, don't get me wrong. It's just not as "true" to the novel as the Sci-Fi version (particularly the ending).

This seems to be the unreleased HD-DVD transfer:
When In Rome 2007 is A live DVD by Genesis recorded at Circo Massimo, Rome, Italy - July, 14 2007, during the successful Turn It On Again Tour on 2007. The collection was released on May 26, 2008 for most of the world, June 10, 2008 for North America. The DVD includes a 28-page booklet. Audio Options are Dolby 2.0, Dolby 5.1, and DTS 5.1.
A hi-def release on Blu-ray and HD DVD was announced initially on the release of the corresponding live CD Live Over Europe 2007. An HD-DVD release didn't happen due to the demise of the format, and the record company decided there wasn't a sufficient market for a Blu-ray release. The death of HD-DVD may have soured execs on the viability of Blu-ray, while statistically it should have had the opposite effect. A future Blu-ray release is very likely though.

This is a the 1980s best-selling pop lineup.... Genesis is more popular in Italy than anywhere else, so it should be a very receptive audience...
