Don't Believe NPS about C band support ending.

I wish that FreeDBS could change their business structure from non profit to a for profit company and save 4DTV... somehow!!! :eureka

Maybe I have been in the heat too long today. :shocked

The problem is Motorola has a lock on DC2 and Cisco has a lock on the PowerVu. I still feel both companies should be slapped with an antitrust investigation. The programming exists on C Band, the issue is they are no longer interested in selling it to the public.

How is this in the publics "Best Interest"?

:river

Would this have to be in the WUT???

If the receivers are going to be "useless" would any modifications be a no no???

Is charlie going to take this 4DTV Discussion forum away too? In the near future it sounds like this is just going to be memory lane. :( :sob:

It's better in WUT. It's best M don't have access to any 4 play type things we can do to keep our receivers from being doorstops.

This forum will still be here for the 410 and commercial DC.

You probably can show the guy a thing or two about dishes...3 years ago I had the Dishnet guy put it one place, then after he left I moved it and peaked it way better than he did!
My 920 has it's (I believe) original battery, and I guess I don't need to change it now...it should last another 6 months.
But on the bright side, I can still do my W5 DSR-410/Baby-C system, and DMX is still up there and mapped on the 410.
...Still kinda sad though :(
VCII...gone
Analog OTA...gone
4DTV....going.....:( sad.

I already have a dish pointed at 101 peaked I used for a few months for the guide, in theory it could be plug and play, I may hook it to that dish when the guy leaves. Direct said all I will need is 101.

Sad is an understatement. I'm mad, NPS created this. If they left well enough alone instead of cashing in on Dish swap outs we wouldn't have this happening today.

We don't rate anymore sad but true. C band is once again a hobby. I should be thankful of all the years I had subs on c band 87 to now is a long time.

When GI sold out the decline started. Motorola never really cared for us.

Well this has been a turn for the worst. At least for the moment. I remember that there were no subs in the beginning. That is why people went out and bought dishes back in the day. Who is to say that won't happen again? Does it make sense to spend money scrambling signals when only a few thousand people across the country can get them? Not in my book. Also if Moto drops support, then in a way that opens us up for experimentation. Patents must be renewed every so many years. Not to mention the fact that there must be monetary loss for any civil case to be filed in any court. Moto can't claim any damages to their business if they are not running a business. In other words, they drop 4d, then we can play with 4d without fear of being lawbreakers and getting sued. No money being made off 4d, then no damages to Moto's business, thus no case against people that play with their receivers. Not to decipher the encrypted stuff, just to get the functionality back. Remember, we did purchase these receivers. They are not owned by Moto. That alone give us the right to do what we want to them as long as it relates to grabbing FTA stuff by simply keeping the maps loaded. This could be a stickey situation for Moto. By dropping 4d "support" as they call it, they are effectivly destroying our receivers. Nobody has a right to destroy someone elses property. The only way out that I see is for Moto to release software in the end that will allow us to keep the functionality of the receiver. If they don't, then a law suit on behalf of all 4d receiver owners could be filed. Here is an example of how it should go down. The Saturn motor company is defunct. However the cars still function and there are parts to be found. Many parts are made only by Saturn. Those rights are going to be givin away to after market people in order to keep what vehicles that are there on the road. This 4d thing needs to work the same way. Do we have any lawyers here at the forum that would care to write Moto about this? Just a few thoughts my friends. Have a great day!

Think I'll just buy a 410. I've had my 905 for 10 years and its time for a new receiver:).Theres more channels on W5 than I can watch. Why go to the dark side?

That looks like a good option if it stays around! :)

I have sticker shock after looking at charlie's prices and all the extra crap in the packages. A few more 410 package options would be great or if someone (A mutated FreeDBS) could start up a "Dishdirect" company and offer real packages if the 410 option goes away. It would be like NPS reuplinking but on Ku. The picture on 4DTV is awesome and the Ku would still be better than charlie's quality. It seems to me that more investors would be knocking on the "FreeDBS" door if they offered CMT or VH1 Classic in addition to the Hillbilly TV channel! ;)

I subscribed to the channels that has DIY, HGTV, etc about a month ago. Skyvision didn't mention anything about the future change in 4DTV. These channels are on the C3 satellite.

i get their digital basic from skyvision myself and have been getting from them for a few years now. eurosport84 i went to your page and it showed the stuff i usually see, but when i hit the home button then programming only gave me the pdf for the 410 stuff. wondering if it how my computer is working or is it like that for everyone

You're right. It did the same thing here. I'm sure they'll still sell 6- or 3-month 4DTV packages, though. Have to call 'em up on the telephone, I guess.

I wonder if we 4DTV owners should band together and really bombard Motorola with letters protesting this move. There many 4DTV owners out there and if we really push this, we may get some results. Nobody is mentioning anything about standing up to them. They are a company that makes money and if they get letters from all of us then they may reconsider.
I rather subscribe thru 4DTV and make choices I want than to pay thru the nose to the pizza pan that cram excess channels that I don't care anything about. We got till December before Motorola pull the plug.
It isn't fair and we need to protest.

Read this one on 4DTV Satforum:
"I checked with Motorola ACC again. They will not be sending out the remapping data stream signal, or Guide data for 4DTV after 12-31-10 when they stop the authorization signals. Hits will continue sending maps and Guide data on W5 only for DSR 410's, not for DSR 905, 920, 922 4DTV units. NPS cannot authorize DSR 410 units, only SRL or Skyvision can do that."

ill get a 410 myself if i cant keep my package with skyvision. i also have the dread dish network and quite frankly the picture does stink compared to my 4dtv. but the kids needed Disney. plus i do like the hdnet channel they give free as a test channel

I'd stay away from Dish as they pulled down a few channels today ;)

Both have free HD right now...D* is much better especially if you a sports fan :)

i may be the only guy in usa that careless about sports lol. what i get on there little package on skyvision is exactly what i what to what. im a house hunters fan big time and even watch the reruns every time they come on. and got root for mike Holmes too, wish he could say the names of the bad guys that build bad houses

I just went out and checked SRL and Skyvision, there is nothing on either site about 4DTV ending. I Googled the Internet and there is no announcement from Motorola, SRL, or Skyvision about 4DTV ending. If someone has something definitive please post a link or a copy of a document. Until I see something solid I'm going to consider this just another rumour. I'm not saying it isn't true but I've had enough of the "somebody told me" posts.

That's what has raised so much curiousity, jeepguy, over last 6 months, just verbal announcements and nothing actually posted officially on any website.

I tried to explain this to stan the other day as now NPS is in "I told you so mode" but has still, as of yesterday, failed to post the announcement on their website with all the comings and goings of channels, etc.

Why is this? Again, I am not saying that authorizations aren't ending, but am curious to why not a formal announcement? There are ~20,000 curious about this, some of which jumping ship daily.

I sent email yesterday to Motorola ACC but the lady that receives email at the posted address is out for the week....
