Don't Believe NPS about C band support ending.

If Motorola allows Comcast to continue the W5 channels, that may play into our hands, maybe they can pick up enough subs to allow a new combomode receiver to be built so we can sub to missing channels, while still being able to utilize our dish for fta on other satellites.

TVROPro- Sounds like it is getting about time to take 4play out for a test drive. Maybe I can find a cheap IRD on ebay now cheap enough to do my experiments on, to get ready for the new year.... I plan to sub via SRL/Skyvision until at least 12/31 if allowed to do so.

Well it's not like I haven't been preparing myself for the end. I always figured it was coming. It would be great if W5 continued for a while. Plenty of choices still there and if need be I have my 410 on the shelf if they go that route.

If it doesn't, I'll figure something out with all these dishes I have.

I may just paint some flowers on my dishes as I have no plans on removing them.

Well if the srl/skyvision stuff stays then they can probably use the 4d's for it as well no? Not sure if it would worth it, without a modified 630 it's pretty much dead.

I don't for see a new receiver unless a miracle happens. The writing is on the wall. C band subscription is over. I don't really know how much longer the 410 can hold out. It's a shame it had to come to this. NPS had a big role to play in the 4DTV's demise especially this year. It really bothers me that I invested from 1991 till this year in NPS mostly and this is how were treated at the end :(. May NPS or whatever they call themselves now fail at there future endeavors.

SRL just posted at satforums that the 410 will still work, it's not really nps it's the consumer, most people want plug and play. nps pushed as hard as they could until it no longer made business sense to do so, business is about making money. They were the only ones crazy enough to reuplinking channels for a constantly shrinking market.

http://forums.satforums.com/SatForumMaster/common/messages.php?msg=23138.45SRL received verbal notice yesterday that Motorola is shutting down 4DTV services as of December 31st. Up until yesterday Motorola had stated that "the rumors are unfounded" and an April 2010 memo stated "We look forward to continuing business in 4DTV." Also we were told as long as 4DTV remains profitable that it would continue. All the information that we had led us to believe 4DTV would continue past 2010. To reiterate, up until yesterday everything was speculation.

Motorola has told us that the DSR-410 will not be effected and will continue into 2011. For those that are not familiar, the DSR-410 works with your C-Band satellite dish off of W5 only and has it's own guide.

We are very disappointed to get this news and we will continue to support C-Band until the end if the customer so wishes to continue programming.

We would like to thank all of our subscribers and dealers for your support. We appreciate your business.

Hmm. Write to the FCC and write to congress. What Motorola did seems to border on unethical, if not just for the mere fact of misleading the public.

If nothing else is will be fun to watch the Motorola CEO get grilled on CSPAN.

I wish SRL could have somehow kept our 4DTV's subbed to W5. What's the big deal. Now that 4DTV is a big dish mover for the most part. I will use mine for ITC DC2 once my subs run out. I have been planing for this day for a while and doing my homework. I went ahead and ordered Direct Tv today. It will be nice in a way to get back some channels we haven't had for years. I will always enjoy my FTA DVB, DC2 and c band. It's just that the masters and subscription C band short of the 410 are over and we need to accept it and move on. The hobbyist in me has not changed but I do like certain subscription channels.

 Tvropro ordered PIZZA! ...and not sausage & cheese!

Will it still be pizza if I put the LNBF along side my bud's feedhorn

Seriously though Euro I ordered the choice SD package for 24.99 a month for the first 12 months. I'm not giving up on the bud but sick and tired of this crap we have been dealing with since Feb with NPS.

Hey look at Ice he has Direct I'm following Tonys lead :)

The install is suppose to happen tomorrow. (like I need them to install) I will probably teach the guy a thing or two about dishes :D

The end of an era... since 1987 :(

S**t...
I finally got hold of a 922 and now this.
I ain't going to pizza pan. No way!
I guess I could use my C Band dish for all C and Ku FTA channels and maybe use the 922 for moving the dish and whatever ITC DCII channels.

I feel cheated and my 922 is 4 1/2 years old. Got 16 years out of my Monterey.

I'll still use the 922 for ITC DC, analog and dish mover.

If Motorola leaves things as is at the end they should be usable. The clocks will be off but we will be able to change birds and use generic maps for special stuff. We will have to come up with a plan and it's probably best to talk about this in WUT as D day near's. All the best computer minds at sat guys need to get together in WUT and do some discussing of things.

You probably can show the guy a thing or two about dishes...3 years ago I had the Dishnet guy put it one place, then after he left I moved it and peaked it way better than he did!
My 920 has it's (I believe) original battery, and I guess I don't need to change it now...it should last another 6 months.
But on the bright side, I can still do my W5 DSR-410/Baby-C system, and DMX is still up there and mapped on the 410.
...Still kinda sad though :(
VCII...gone
Analog OTA...gone
4DTV....going.....:( sad.

:river

Would this have to be in the WUT???

If the receivers are going to be "useless" would any modifications be a no no???

Is charlie going to take this 4DTV Discussion forum away too? In the near future it sounds like this is just going to be memory lane. :( :sob:
