Dish sues signal theives.

NFusion

I'm guessing these guys were selling some receivers advertising them as FTA when they were actually pirated. I don't feel sorry for them a bit. Sooner or later all pirates will get caught.

DISH Network sues Henderson men over alleged piracy - Monday, June 21, 2010 | 9:05 a.m. - Las Vegas Sun

NFusion uses IKS. It even states that in the article. I doubt they ever said whether it was legal or not. They just sold the units telling custs they could get the programming by paying someone a fee for an IKS site.

How stupid can you be?

From the article : "NFusion was in the process of procuring patent or trademark protection for its invention". Nothing like advertising that you are doing something illegal! Doh!

Can you still collect patent royalties while you're in prison ?? After you've paid all your fines of course...lol...

I expect E* to win, but lots of it will be dropped based on Discovery.
If E* keeps using these same tactics, these lawyers will end up being disbarred for all these false claims or allegations. The one I love especially is how the "defendants" use this technology to receive free service at there home.

Do they? Probably
Does E* have proof? How do they have proof?

We already know Nfusion has lawyers, we already know they know what battle they are fighting. Pre-trial discovery will probably make this 19 page, 6 violation complaint down to 1 or maybe 2.

*Why not just drop Nagravision?

Its Civil, I doubt the AG will file criminal charges

drop nagravision? replace every receiver in the field and all encoders etc?

cost way too much........

and any system thats impossible to break will make receivers so expensive the whole thing isnt worth it

I think the whole problem is the internet.

I remember back in the day when you used to be able to get the cable "Cheater" boxes that allowed you to get all the 6 or 7 of the movie channels for free.

The whole problem back then is that you had to know someone who knew someone who sold the stuff.

Today you just go on the internet, in a few minutes you can usually find someone selling what your looking for, or can provide information on where you can get parts to build it such as on ebay

You can replace the encryption device, but you got so many people online trying to get free television, someone will find a hack for whatever comes out.

If Dish wants to get rid of their piracy problem, they need to get somthing thats harder to crack then Directv and then all the pirates will focus on Directv.

The only good thing both providers have done is come up with the leasing model, making it harder and harder for Pirates to get actual Dish or Directv equipment in large quanities. Thats why over the past 3-4 years we have seen so much knock off FTA crap come on the market.
