This has already been answered. Please see posts #40 and #34 in this thread.

I recorded on the meter 16 shows 94% space remaining dose it seem it is eating space up if I recorder 192 hours of hd without watching any episodes from Sept. to May will it fill up before May want it eat up space fast like it seems it is ?

Why would you want to do that?
Again if the Genie bites the dust you lose everything

It can record 200 hours of HD....so do the math. How do you know how many hours each show takes up unless you know the exact amount of episodes it will have this season and how long they are.

I really wish you'd read the responses before posting it AGAIN AND AGAIN. As I posted RIGHT ABOVE YOU

Just had to log in to say, this thread has been more entertaining than an Abbott & Costello routine! Who's on first? Yes! What? What's on second!

dumb question to sportman1, why can't you just watch shows when you have time? instead of save them

Jimbo I record
1,1 HR show and
2, 1/2 hr shows DVR with a 1 TB hard drive what the hours ?

Ok.. Everybody else got sucked in.. I'll try..
1, 1 HR show and
2, 1/2 hr shows
Equals 2 Hours. You could record about 100 Episodes of the 1 HR show PLUS 200 Episodes of the 1/2 Hour show before the GENIE was full. Thats if you recorded nothing else.
Please, please, please dont ask if I mean you can record 100 episodes of the 1 HR show and 200 episodes of the 1/2 hour show... I've watched the thread, I'd like to help, but I'm not gonna play that game.

For the record... Sportsnation, Blue Bloods, Good Wife, and Castle are all one-hour shows (although Sportsnation does have a few half hour episodes). And that's four shows... but anyway, here's a legit question:

If an identical show is recorded from a 720p channel (like Family Guy on Fox) and on a 1080i channel (like Family Guy on TBS), what is the size difference, if any, of the file?

If there is no episode info it will record it REGARDLESS of setting. If its set to "First Run", "repeats" or "Both" it will record it.

This is something DirecTV needs to address. I never had this problem when recording to the Dish 622 or the 722. I was able to record CSN, Redskins Nation, without recording every episode. I can’t do that with DirecTV – everything records, even when set to, first run. With DirecTV there isn’t enough information for the system to categorize what is showing – the same information is displayed every day, so it assumes it's first run so it records everything. I have discussed this with the high tech team members at Direct and they are looking to address this issue. Whether they resolve it or not remains to be seen, but the person I spoke with seemed shocked that Dish had the technology and Direct didn’t.

D* gives you whole lot more show info than DISH does.
Not sure where your going with this though.

ejb,
Were you actually looking for an answer to that question, or just making a statement ?
