I don't have a Genie, I'm a directv installer. That's why I have the knowledge of the system

There's no way to quantify it in those terms. It's one terabyte of storage. HD, SD, OTA all effect file size. I would venture that 720p vs. 1080i matters, too. Note: I would certainly not recommend waiting until May to watch everything - One crash and it's all gone. And with my HR34, if it gets to be less than 75 to 80% on the DVR space, it becomes even slower and messes up more.
To see if a show is new, select more info and look at the first air date. This is not given for all shows. That hasn't changed since you asked it the other day.

ejb1980 sorry I meant for the Directv Genie HR34-700 with HD-GUIDE dose it show new like a regular TIVO dose ?
To see if a show is new... look under "more info" and it will usually say the date it first aired. If the date it first aired is today, it's new. Otherwise, it's not new.
My Directv Genie HR34-700 is acting strange My Set up is first run only all episodes keep until what it dose is keeps recording repeats when it should not and the other thing it dose is when it dose record a new show and their is the next new show it dose not record at all maybe this Directv Genie HR34-700 is messed up for me should I ask to have replaced ever hear of this ?
I am aware of your issue. I read it the 5 times you posted it in the other thread. Myself and others told you that if a show is not properly tagged, it will probably record. What shows specifically are you having this issue with? What channels? My HR34 has done this and others told you the same. I have seen cable DVRs do the same thing.

I've been recording "America's Game" on NFL network for months and not a single one is even set to record on my DVR, it's a weird glitch that happens all the time to people. And ejb, thank you! I was gonna throw the correct spelling in there as well
as noted above there is no "Real" answer. If its in HD it will take up more space than SD. If you record a HD channel it takes more space up than SD
