That's a dubious distinction in a market where the live TV streaming services (excluding DIRECTV) typically cost much less. The streaming services (again, excluding DvI) don't have hidden add-ons.

IF you notice from my original post, which I linked above, I clearly stated that I despise Charter/Spectrum for their PRICING, which IMO, is far too high for an "internet-only" account. I NEVER said I despise them for the speeds they stated, or what I was getting with the old router.

Also by the way, I never expected THIS high of a difference, just because of swapping the router with a new one, or I'd have tried it a long time ago. This TP-Link router did about 90% of the configuration automatically, AND, got it all perfect compared to my original Netgear router that had to have nearly everything configured manually, and in depth. It was a great router, but I got about 8 years out of it before it started acting up these last few weeks, so I can't complain too much. To boot, the new TP-Link router was 1/2 the cost of the Netgear.

There's only 1 single thing the new router can't do: It doesn't have a built-in USB print server capability, and I would have liked that. I have an older Brother laser printer that's USB only. So, I'll have to get a print server to handle that. Or maybe I'll get a network laser. Not sure I want to lay out that much money for one though.

Yes, the pricing is high for standalone but it's better than what is was, $80 for 500 Mb, $100 for 1 Gb. But those of us who bundle should be treated with better pricing and we finally got that.

Point is your complaining about speeds and service was completely unwarranted since it was your equipment that was the the problem, not Charters. They were giving you want you were paying for all along.

I haven't done the math with Charter's new pricing, but comparing apples to apples as best as possible, Spectrum has always been less expensive versus DirecTV in many circumstances with traditional, non streaming services. The Broadcast Fee on Spectrum (which DirecTV doesn't have) has always been mostly negated by the RSN Fee on DirecTV (which Spectrum doesn't have). I've had both service side by side for years and when it's all said and done DirecTV is usually (but not always) more expensive in different scenarios. But now it's a moot point since the Broadcast TV is gone and it's backed into the cost of the main packages. I'm comparing, non bundled, MSRPs.
 
You must be a glutton for punishment. I threw out the Cisco router I inherited as it only supported the proprietary (and horribly inefficient) Cisco VPN scheme.
I have no problem with my Cisco RV340 Router, Cisco WAP371 access points or Cisco SG200 switches.

They all do exactly what I need them to do and have never given me a problem. I wouldn't replace them for or with anything.
 
To each his own. I spent too much time combing over Cisco vulnerabilities on the CERT vulnerability rundowns. Same thing for DLink.
 
Every time I check the rate card, the non promo pricing is different. My 12 mo promotion just expired, and my last promo priced bill said they were extending it 12 more months as a courtesy. Well I just got my new bill and guess what, no promo pricing.

I called retention and got a very nice guy who set me up with a an even better deal than I had before. They came through, but definitely monitor your bills.

Over the last few years I've called and TRIED to get them to lower my price, but they know there's no competition here, so refuse. IF you press them, they threaten to immediately cancel your account. I have no doubts they'd wipe you faster than you could blink. We are up to $82.99 INTERNET-ONLY. We've had them for over 20 years also, though have also had tv in the past.

If the price for the service is not worth it to you then of course you should cancel. They are just honoring your wishes. People complain about companies attempting to pressure you into staying, SiriusXM comes to mind, and people complain about companies that attempt to honor your request canceling your service with no fight, people can never be happy with anything. Either pay the price or leave. Very simple, very black and white.

The new price is $80 for 500 Mb x 20 Mb or 500 Mb symmetrical if you are in a high split area. While only $3, if you are still paying $83 you should call up and switch to the new pricing.

In March of 2017, when Spectrum Pricing became available in my l_TWC market, I was paying $105 for 100 Mb x 10 Mb, 7 years later now 500 Mb x 20 Mb is $25/month cheaper or 1 Gb x 35 Mb is $5/month cheaper. 10x the speed for $5 less (especially considering the inflation) doesn't really sound like a price increase to me.

I work in IT for the US federal government. So whether you remain a Charter customer or not, as long as you continue to pay your taxes you still are paying my salary (and very nice pension) :P

You complained about the service when it was 100% the fault of YOUR equipment now you are complaining about pricing when it's clearly cheaper that is was in the past for the same level or higher level of service. If you don't like the service or think it's too expensive, just leave, no one is stopping you from canceling.

Charter has tied in bundling of streaming services via its recent carriage agreements with Disney, Paramount Global, AMC and Warner Bros. Discovery. In addition to the coming integration of Peacock, those deals have enabled Charter to launch pay-TV bundles that include Disney+, ESPN+ (for Charter's new sports tier), Paramount+, AMC+, BET+, ViX, Max and Discovery+. Charter estimates that, with the coming addition of Peacock, the operator will provide $65 per month of retail DTC streaming value through these bundles.

By the way, the above is the with Commercial Versions.

So, Charter wants me to subscribe to their overpriced TV Service just so I can get the above and watch commercials.

Or I can subscribe myself directly to the commercial free versions I want and it would be 1/3 of the price of Charter’s TV Service.

I NEVER complained about anything EXCEPT their pricing! Even when my old router didn't give me the top speeds I was paying for, I didn't fault them for that. I admit I never thought the router would have made the difference. They jacked us "internet only" customers UP another $5, and claim they gave you bundlers a break on your price. So, we get screwed yet again on price, and you guys get a bundled lower price.

And Yes, that’s how bundling works. Those of us who have more services should get better pricing than those of you who only have one service. I get a better price getting a #1 Combo Meal at Burger King versus ordering Whopper at Burger King, fries from Wendy’s and a Coke from McDonalds. It’s not a new concept. I am a more valued customer because I have more services, I should get a better deal because of that, not because I whine about it on the internet.

I do not have Spectrum Mobile service as I do not care for Verizon. Those that have internet + TV + landline + mobile are more valued than me and deserve better pricing than me. I have no problem with that.

In the end, does it really matter? If cable TV is soooooo expensive you are likely paying less with Spectrum internet and whatever satellite and streaming services you subscribe to than I do.

As someone with zero interest in streaming I would rather them keep the streaming crap, and give me a few dollars off on my bill. I am am very very happy it's NOT the commercial free versions. As that would mean Charter paid more, which means cost would be passed on to the customer and I would be paying more for the junk I will never ever use. I want zero streaming.

T-Mobile offers 'free' Netflix with Ads and Hulu with Ads and you can upgrade to without ads and pay the difference. I don't see how what Charter is doing is any different other than T-Mobile is the darling of the tech world and gets better press.

Then all the extra streaming content which Paid Live TV Channels does not have.

Plus the streaming services, Paramount+, Peacock, Hulu, Disney+, HBO, Showtime and Netflix, all Commercial free, in their best quality, for under $80, Charter does not compare.

Good for you. I do not care for streaming and having access to the streaming services commercial free or not, brings no value to my TV habbits or to my life in general. I would love to opt and save $5/month. You'll have to pry my cable box remote from my cold dead hands.

that's what we did. we monitor our bills mark promo end dates on calenders and call in. we have multi fiber options now in our area. we called spectrums retention dept and said hey look were going to be leaving because we can get better pricing elswhere via a fiber competitor. at first the rep could not help me since it was fiber. but to keep us he did end up going into his system and giving us a better deal. this years renewal will be different since they just installed 10 gig fiber connections in our area and it's 59.99 a month... do i need 10 gig speeds no but the price is to die for no one can match that!!!
