Ratings: O'Brien Off to a Strong Start on 'Tonight'

New "Tonight Show" host Conan O'Brien got off to a rousing ratings start Monday, crushing CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and generating strong sampling.
O'Brien's debut notched a 7.1 rating/17 share in Nielsen's 56 overnight metered markets, the best Monday metered markets for the "Tonight" franchise in four years.

'I'm a Celebrity' slips to new low

On a dull night of television full of repeats, NBC's "I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here" was like the Omega Man, one of only three major network broadcast programs with an original episode. Now slimmed back to an hour again, "Celebrity" (4.7 million viewers, 1.7 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) won its hour against encore zombies, but slipped a tenth from its last couple airings to hit a new low.

Letterman Beats Conan in Viewers for Full Week

CBS' “Late Show With David Letterman” beat NBC's “The Tonight Show” for the first time in viewers for a full week of original broadcasts since December 2005.
“Late Show” delivered an average 3.46 million viewers for the week ending June 19 versus “The Tonight Show's” 3.32 million, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings.

Monday ratings: ABC's best in a year

This matched ABC's best summertime Monday night in a year.
So ABC won in the demo, CBS was second in demo but first among total viewers with repeats

Helped by a Big Name, Letterman Bounces Back

Is David Letterman back?
If not all the way, he certainly seems to be getting there. Mr. Letterman, CBS’s late-night star, scored an impressive win last week as his audience topped that of NBC’s “Tonight Show” and its new host, Conan O’Brien, during that show’s least-viewed week since total viewers have been measured.

As ABC, NBC and CBS covered the Presidential Press Conference, Fox’s regular So You Think You Can Dance cruised to an easy win in the adults 18-49 demo, far ahead of the competition.
Comparing the fast affiliate numbers for a live event is a bit tricky, but last night’s press conference drew 16.487 million on ABC, CBS and NBC compared to 18.81 million for the same 3 networks on April 29.

Late Night Race Heats Up as O'Brien AND Letterman Increase Their Leads

'Big Bang,' 'Men' beat out original programming

Overall for the Aug. 10-16 frame, according to Nielsen in-home viewing estimates, CBS led in adults 18-49 with a 1.6 rating/5 share, followed by Fox (1.5/5), NBC (1.4/5), Univision (1.3/4), ABC (1.2/4) and USA (1.0/3). This reps the Eye's first 18-49 victory in 30 weeks (since mid-January).
CBS also continues to get good mileage out of its Monday comedy repeats. Most noteworthy has been the perf of "The Big Bang Theory" in its new 9:30 p.m. slot, where last week it ranked fourth among all programs (2.8/8 in 18-49, 8.64m), building in demos on its "Two and a Half Men" lead-in (2.4/7, 8.83m).

'Shaq' vs. 'Big Brother' -- Who won?

ABC premiered its new series "Shaq Vs." against three other original reality shows Tuesday evening and the basketball star mostly got whooped.
"Shaq Vs." drew 4.3 million viewers and a 1.7 preliminary adults 18-49 ratings, tying Fox's "More to Love" (4 million, 1.7) for third place in the oddly competitive 9 p.m. summer hour.

According to Nielsen nationals that include same-night DVR playback, "V" averaged a 3.8 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 and 10.7 million viewers overall. It placed second in most categories to CBS' "NCIS" (4.4/12 in 18-49, 20.96m) while winning the 8 o'clock hour in men 18-34 and tying "NCIS" for the lead in men 18-49.

Awards helped carry ABC to victory in key demos with the net's best numbers since premiere week.NBC's "Sunday Night Football" and ESPN's "Monday Night Football" finished atop the primetime program rankings with their second best demo deliveries of the season, but ABC's telecast of the 43rd annual CMA Awards finished fourth, tied with Fox's "House" and a bit behind ABC's "Grey's Anatomy."
