Apple IPAD Owner's Thread

If I sync then do a factory restore and then re-sync based on what is saved in iTunes, will that resolve it as well? Or will it try and "sync" the Cydia app as well? It's just that the whole SSH thing seems rather complicated... or am I wrong in that regard. Can anyone compare it to rooting and installing a custom ROM on an Android device?

The restore will clear your jailbreak. When you resync it will not resync your jailbreak APPs. The only way to get the JB APPs back is to jailbreak it again. It will resync your iTunes store APPs, contacts, ex.

There is no current jailbreak for 4.3.4 on the iPad 2. The reason I mention this is because a restore will more than likely also give you 4.3.4. Your best bet is to simply do an update. The update will also clear your jailbreak and you will not have to resync everything

Right. I want to keep the ability to JB, so I've been holding off on the 4.3.4 update. I know it patches the PDF exploit, but I can (allegedly) get the same patch via a Cydia app. So a restore and re-sync should do the job?

Just make sure it doesnt give you 4.3.4. Today will be better because tomorrow may be the day for the official update

I can can check to see when my wife gets home. I can use her phone since it is not JB

Actually iTunes has been bugging me to update to the new version. As I said, I have been putting it off for the main reason that I don't want to lose JB ability. Hell look how long it took for them to JB the iPad 2 the first time.

May I ask why you want to do this? Why not leave it as is?

I'm bringing in my iPad 2 to the Apple store tomorrow to evaluate a scratch on the glass. I want to see if they can easily fix it or if I just have to live with it. I know there's no reason for them to look at the software on the machine, but I'd rather be safe than sorry, since I'm sure they're looking for any excuse to not have to deal with the thing, and a JB is a perfect one, even though there's no way that the JB can cause such a thing.

I don't know if the restore option will work. I was about to do it and iTunes told me it would restore the device and then update the iPad 2 to the most recent version of the software, which would be 4.3.4...

OK. A coworker of mine had her 3G antenna disconnect and they would not even look at her phone because it was JB. Of course they had to trouble shoot and check the software as well. She restored it and brought it back later to be fixed

Since yours is cosmetic they may not even check or care. The worst that can happen is for them to refuse.

Basically I'm just going to give them the iPad with it turned off and hope they don't go snooping around. I hid away the cydia icon in a folder and deleted all my jailbreak apps.

Well, I had an interesting experience at the Apple Store..

After waiting a while to get "serviced" a woman came up and asked what was wrong. I showed her the scratch on the screen and she said she wanted to go take it and look at it in a better light. Then, after an uncomfortably long wait period, she came back and said that although cosmetic damages are not covered under warranty, since my particular scratch is so annoying, they were going to give me a new iPad 2 in a "One Time Exception" deal. They were going to give me a new one right there, but I remembered I had some videos and photos that I wanted to save so they basically gave me an official "IOU," although for some reason I have to make ANOTHER appointment with the Genius Bar (which really SHOULD be serving drinks IMO at that place) for the sole purpose of exchanging it. All I can say is, "Wow, Apple. You REALLY are trying hard to make up for all those past years of anger and resentment I had towards your products, business practices, CEO, public statements, etc etc."

On a side note, I found that yes, even with cosmetic issues they snoop around your iPad. The girl told me, "Even when I was in the Settings section I couldn't get my eye off of the scratch." All I could think when I heard that gem was "Thank GOD I removed all my JB apps beforehand and she didn't look in my Games folder where I hid Cydia." Still, I was a little perturbed that they felt the need to look around my iPad, especially in that section. Overall though, I think I made out pretty damn well.

The snooping part would be annoying for sure.

But the new iPad 2 is sweet! Good for you!

So I got my new iPad 2. I was happy how well the iTunes syncing process worked. It really did make my new iPad 2 like my old one, although for some reason it couldn't sync the Marathon game. Also, it came with iOS 4.3.3, so I was able to JB it and also install the Cydia based PDF exploit fix. Thanks Apple!

I am looking for a much much better e-mail app for my ipad.

Requirements:

Need it to work similar to Microsoft Outlook. That is, it should have ability to easily create folders and automatic filing of e-mail into those folders based on rules I create.
It should also have a junk / spam screener that detects junk spam and quarantines them into a folder for later screening and easy permanent deletion.

Anyone here find a good e-mail app I can audition?

PS- I should note that I do not need this for exchange server, just to poll my POP email accounts.

No clue. I find the Mail.app to be very good. But my mail gets sorted in GMAIL first, and the IMAP connection takes care of making sure new mail is in the right folder.

Is there any way to password-protect the email program?
Or (even better) is there a way to have multiple user accounts? (So that multiple family members could check their emails on the same iPad)

Multiple user accounts would be great. That way I could have separate accounts for my wife, daughter, and myself. It would be nice to be able to use the Facebook app under your own account so you don't have to log in and out when a different user wants to use it.

Screaming brand new capacitor.
