Apple IPAD Owner's Thread

I was referring to your comment about likely difficulty getting help at the Apple Store. Apple Care is like the golden ticket to fast service.

I won't buy their Apple Care. I had it once because the Apple fanboys had that same line of malarky you just quoted, something about being a Golden ticket to help from a "genius" The Apple Care was a total ripoff and so are their training classes on Final Cut Pro. Apple Care is for people who can't figure out how to connect a charger to their ipad.

As for your second guess, I don't think it was their database but rather a series of coincidental circumstances triggered by a less than intelligent spell checker in auto mode. I can't prove it but what I did as previously posted seems to have fixed it for now. Just type in the answer the way the auto spell checker will change it to and remember it that way.

The second one wasn't a guess, just my experience with itunes.

Apple Care on my macbook pro serves as a warranty for not only the mbp but for any accessories bought after the machine, i.e., the airport express, and the second 60w charger is actually covered under it. Kind of cool in that sense. I have never used it. Although I thought I was going to have to when not getting the iPad to install the new iOS5 beta, but I was just being stupid and trying to UPDATE instead of RESTORE. :D

Glad your iPad is working again.

Back when I had my merchant CC account and they started the CVC code usage it was strictly forbidden to store the code anywhere. We were told there would be fines for violating the storage rule. We were instructed to use that code to verify when the processor returned the answer from the processor's database. We were to visually compare and then send an OK if it matched. I think things have since changed and now merchants can store the codes in account information data bases. Consequently, the code is now useless for security but adds an extra step in making the sale. Why today when a store's records are stolen your CVC may get passed along with your card number name address phone and exp date etc. In the old days we had to wait for the number to be sent from Visa or MC database. Anyway, I haven't had a merchant account in 3 years and love paypal. :)

I put this in that category of doing it the way Apple wants you to do it, not the way I would normally do it. The one rule with Apple products, is NEVER EVER think outside the box!

Let me know what you find. A coworker's iPhone is doing the same thing and he needs to update some "free" software but can't.

Given that your problem seems related to a case sensitive issue, I am not sure how it fits into the don't ever think out of the box mentality.

So I jail broke my iPad 2, but I need to bring it in to the apple store to get it looked at. Obviously as soon as they find out that fact they will probably tell me to leave, even though this is a cosmetic issue. In any case I backed up my stuff in iTunes before I jb. Do I just plug in to iTunes and restore my last backup? Will simply doing that remove cydia and all the apps that were installed by it?

Just do a restore and they will not know. It will also resync everything to your last backup

So I've got Cydia on my iPad 2 now... Guess I'm just not sure what I've been 'missing' as an unrooted user? Some of the themes look nice but I'm not going o throw money at them.
What I was missing on my iPad2 was Clock, Compass, Calculator, Stocks, Weather. Sure there are alternatives to all of these in the App Store but I personally want the same apps on all my devices.

First thing I did was figure out how to copy them over from my iPhone4 and then I took the extra step of building Cydia packages out of them. I put them on my experimental repo, just add www.pepper.net to your Cydia sources. All free for Satelliteguys members! :D

Added you. Thanks!!!!

SO, I have wanted to find a way to easily markup -- mostly highlight and take occasional notes -- PDF versions of research articles. I tried two iPad apps, iAnnotate and PDF Expert. I import the files I want through Dropbox (in the app), and then use a stylus to markup and highlight text. After playing with both apps I decided the highlighting in PDF Expert is easier to use than in iAnnotate. But what is cool with PDF Expert is that the software creates an iPad Wi-Fi Network, which I can mount on the mac book pro (or PC), and when I am done with the annotated file, I can copy the file in the Finder to the folder where I want it. It is much easier to get the file back to the mac/pc.

Once the file is on the mac/pc, I then save the PDF as reduced size (eliminating some of the early PDF compatibility modes) and when I open it in Devonthink Pro (my research database), it is good to go, fully marked up. I dont NEED to do the reduced size, but I find that by doing it, the file gets optimized, and runs better in Devonthink, scrolling smoothly.

As a form of workflow, this is pretty easy, and the iPad makes reading the PDF so much easier than it would be to read on screen - and it saves some trees too.

Yet another reason how the iPad kicks butt -- and I could not easily do this on an Android tablet.

Okay I need some help.

I tried to un-jailbreak my iPad 2 but when I plugged it into iTunes it started a new backup and deleted my old one that I did before JB. Now Cydia is still on there and I don't know how to get it out. Do I have to do another sync and then factory restore the device?

They just came out with 4.3.4 today. It is not automatic yet; you have to select update. If you update to the new firmware it will un-jailbreak your phone. That is probably the easiest way.

Make sure you save your SSH first so you can go back to 4.3.3 if you want to rejailbreak

Screaming brand new capacitor.
