Could you imagine if the public actually knew what the rest of the world thought about the USA? I truly feel that the public is brainwashed by whatever particular news company they prefer to watch. It bothers me to see so many people that are so one sided and not open to other opinions.

I also dislike all of the publicity of violence and murder. I know people like to know whats going on but it just seems that those are the biggest stories. I think it affects society in a negative way.

Al La Carte. I remember when I moved in my home the cable bill was $5.50 a month. This was the late 70's and into the 80's. I had every channel I wanted and was totally happy. Didn't need any boxes, just a cable to the TV. Memories.

I think most Americans just have a bad misconception of what Al Jezeera actually is. Most hear the name and just associate it to the Middle East and think it's a terrorist network. I'll admit that's the first thing I though of before I read more about it.

I disagree. I think many people, not the majority but a good percentage, don't have a misconception of AJAM. They know exactly what it is but choose not to watch. I'm in that group.

And before you ask, yes I have seen it as well as AJE. There is a definite anti-American, or better still, anti-Western and anti-Isreali tilt to their stories both in what the choose to report and how they choose to report it. Yes, again, every channel has the bias of their owner. I distrust the Qatar government as well as the Al Jazeera Media Network's favorable views of Hamas and others.

I agree that if you want a more international view of the world then this could be a station to watch. I get my international news from other places.

Personally, I would love it if the channel never found a large audience and withered away. But I know that wont happen due to the large sums of money, and political influence, backing the network. I would not (for 1 second) want it banned or prevented from being shown on any provider. It has to fight for viewers like every other station.

If it has a product that you enjoy and are willing to pay for, then go ahead and watch. However, I believe it's ratings will remain in the CNBC-area of the basement.

The only time I watch Fox News is for the attractive female reporters, compared to the other news channels which is nothing to look at, besides Robin Meade on HLN, but that is tabloid news and court cases. But I don't listen to their political opinions, as for news I watch CNN and AJA even though is SD, just hope they don't turn out like the rest of em.

Since we have Al Jazeera, The Blaze RT (Russia) and CCTV (Chinas) NEws channels
To keep it fair and balance we need to add
BBC Word News, Sky News, and that Japan English news channel. That way we have all parts of the world covered.
And all news channels should be right next to each other on the guide so we can all find them.
Fair and balanced so we can decide what news to watch.

This should be known as the Anecdotal Fallacy. Whenever someone uses that, I think of the episode of the old cartoon Dilbert, when Dogbert is asked if he had evidence. ~"I have the best type of evidence... anecdotal."

I recently got an Onkyo receiver and it has the vTuner app, and I really like listening to BBC Radio 5 "Up all night". They had some interesting stuff on the King speech anniversary and today a really interesting discussion on Syria. Much less noise, much more content.

I do wonder how many who have complained about Al- Jazeera have actually any knowledge of the channel or just do not like it because it is an arabic news channel. They actually have a fairly well respected organization world-wide. In an ideal world I guess we could all just pay for only the things we agree with and toss every thing else, except in the end there would be nothing left.

So is this going to be like The Simpsons line of "Fox became a hardcore porn channel so gradually, I didn't even notice"? You imagining in the near future that American viewers will be waging jihad against America because the news station said so?

Well folks, this one is about dead now.

One thing to remember, not everything is everyone's cup of tea, but remember this is America where you still have the freedom to watch what you want to watch. If you like these channels thenplease watch them and enjoy them. if they are not your type of channels then the answer is quite simple, don't watch. The choice is yours.
