AL EAST 2009

He loaded the bases with none out (bringing the potential tying run to the plate), but then proceeded to strike out the next three batters.

The Verlander game will be a HUGE challenge for the Sox.

You caught the back end of the rotation.
No Verlander or Jackson this time round.
Galarraga and Willis throw the next two games ...
I see a possible sweep for your guys, Galarraga has been struggling for awhile now. I am hoping Bonderman gets here soon and he replaces Galarraga.
Willis, well we know the Willis story.
He's actually pitched decent , but doesn't have much to show for it so far... He's had the same trouble as a few other Tiger pitchers ... a bad inning here and there.

Willis is capable but just hasn't had any luck yet, still walks too many.

Wow, did the Sox ever catch a break!

I knew we were gonna miss Jackson (I have Edwin on my fantasy team :D), but I thought we had to face Verlander.

They are two of the hottest pitchers in baseball.

It's only a three game series , right ?
Jackson pitched yesterday and Verlander the day before.

I'll definitely be watching that game- NBA Finals don't start till Thursday and the Stanley Cup Finals have an off-day.

Sorry Sabre's,
You'll be waiting a long time to see the Varlander and Sox this week.
Maybe the next time the teams meet.

I've never understood the "needs work" logic. Why bring him in if it's not a save situation or a tie game late?? Have him throw some side work if you're worried about rust. After 35 pitches last night he's probably not available tonight.

Lately, he always seems to try and create a pressure situation where one didn't exist when he comes into a non-save appearance....

The Angels get Verlander in game One of the next series ....
Hopefully I didn't curse him and the Angels blow him up !

Why would it be any differnt with the Angels? This guy has just been a one man garbage disposal on batters this season. I fear the worst...:o

Look how "Doc" ate them up and spit them out last night in Toronto!!!!

Nope, Jed Lowrie should be back soon.... :up

This is what I based my post on:

No announcement was made, but Nick Green has become the first option at shortstop over Julio Lugo . Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Green's greater range and offensive output got him a third straight start last night. Green was 0-3 and saw his average dip to .290. "(Green's) gotten big hits, but more importantly, for the moment, his energy and his range at short have been pretty positive," Francona said. "He's thrown some balls away, he's missed some balls, we understand that. We're trying to take two guys and make the best we can. It's not always easy. I don't think Lugo is the most thrilled." Lugo said nothing is bothering him physically or mentally. -- Boston Herald

BINGO!!! That's what I'll never understand.

A closer doesn't work for four days, then the manager puts him into a blowout situation because he "needs work".

What happens next is predictable: three save situations in a row, and you're lucky if your closer can pitch in two of them.

Luckily, the Red Sox have a few options other than Paps to close games this year.

I call BS on that. He can't turn a friggin double play!!

Does this mean that Paplebon is not available for the next couple games against the Tigers ?
