AL EAST 2009

Yup, nice way to start the season! :up Nice to see the captain get off to a good start.

I'm really interested to see how Francona handles the bullpen early on. Will the eighth belong to Okajima? Or will he rotate Okie, Saito and Masterson? What about Delcarmen and Ramirez?

I'm sure all this will shake out by the end of April.
Too much pitching is a problem I would not mind having. Especially after an interview I saw on NESN. There doesn't seem to be an ego problem with the relief staff for Tito to worry about, plus with the injuries that always happen this kind of depth will come in handy...

Agreed! :up

My call is the Sox win 105 games this year, the Division as well. No post season predictions yet.
Oh and I also think the Cy will go to a member of this staff: Beckett, Lester or Paps
.
- Curt Schilling

WOW, it looks like Mr. Schilling is pretty high on his former team!

38 Pitches

I'll make a bold prediction- he will hit a homer tonight.
Another prediction bites the dust. Unless you meant this, of course:

Red Sox defeat Angels, 5-4 despite a heart attack save by Papelbon.

Brad Penny won in his Red Sox debut, and Jay Bay hit two homers.

Tampa Bay.....Boston.....New York. That's all we've heard all winter long- the "Big Three" in the AL East. Many have called them the best three teams in all of baseball.

After five games the top two in the AL East:

Toronto 5-1 and Baltimore 4-1 :D

I realize there's about 157 games left, but I just found it ironic looking at the standings. :)

LOL. I found that amusing too. Interesting start to the '09 season to say the least.

Baltimore started out hot last year too:

Code:
2008 American League - Standings
[B] W	L	PCT	GB[/B]
Baltimore 6	1	0.857	-
Toronto 4	4	0.5	2.5
Boston 4	5	0.444	3
NYY 4	5	0.444	3
Tampa Bay 3	5	0.375	3.5

Carsten Charles pitched again on Saturday.

This time he went 7.2 innings, gave up 0 runs and had 6 strike outs. Funny how people only talk about the big fella when he has a poor outing.

Is it me, or is there a dard cloud hanging over baseball right now!??

Man arrested for making death threats to Pedroia's family

By: Rob Bradford

Woodland (Calif.) police arrested 47-year-old Kenneth Samuels after it was determined that he was had made multiple calls to to the family business of Dustin Pedroia's family which included death threats. Samuels said in the calls that the Pedroia men would be shot and killed, according to a press release from Woodland police Sgt. Heath Parsons. Pedroia had come under some scrutiny in his former hometown, Woodland, for a quote in recent Boston Magazine story in which he said Woodland was a "dump", and "Everyone wants to get out of (Woodland). The place (stinks)." Pedroia told the Sacramento Bee that he was taken out of context. "I'm totally crushed by this, devastated," he told The Bee, "because I didn't mean it that way at all. The (Boston Magazine) writer doesn't know my personality. I kid around a lot, and that's what I was doing when I was talking about Woodland ... That town raised me. I grew up there. I rode my bike there. I played high school ball there. Loved al of it. My family and best friends are still there. I love going home. This article made me seem like a jerk, and I'm not."

Lowrie headed to D.L. due to left wrist injury
By: Rob Bradford

Jed Lowrie, who has been sent back to Boston in order to undergo tests on his left wrist (the same one that suffered a non-displaced fracture last season), will be placed on the 15-day disabled list. The shortstop informed team officials about discomfort in the wrist on Sunday, but expressed that he had been dealing with the issue for a couple of weeks.
Julio Lugo, meanwhile, will play in an extended spring training game in Fort Myers in the next three to four days, his first game activity since undergoing surgery on his torn meniscus in his right knee four weeks ago. Lugo likely will require a minor-league rehab assignment before he can return to the majors.
Gil Velazquez, recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket in place of Lowrie, played on Sunday in a 15-inning game against Buffalo. He got the word that he was being recalled after the team had traveled to Rochester, at roughly 8 p.m.

My Two Cents on Alex Ovechkin
