AL CENTRAL

Josh Beckett, playoff career in 9 games pitched, 8 of which were starts:
5-2 record,
1.78 ERA in 65.2 innings,
73 strikeouts,
0.72 WHIP - yes, you read that right, 1 World Series title.

Yup, he wins when it counts, thats what I want in my pitchers.

I was just gonna post this, but you beat me to it. Thanks! :up

I do not know who is available, but I will bet with this economy, some of these teams might start selling sooner then later. I do not care either who it is..If he can hit in front of or beind miggy and do it well I'll take it. Miggy is just stuck in no mans land with nobody hitting in front of him or behind him and I think he is trying too hard.

As for Beckett, yes he wins in the post season, but this is not the post season, and my point is most every other team hits him at will..Perhaps we are not a patient enough team to do well against him, I don't know, but this is getting old watching our pitchers work so hard and give us exactly what we all said they had to give us this year, and we keep running these clete thomas guys out there in the lead off spot?? I know Granderson is not your typical Lead off man, but Ive had it with this Clete experiment already. Larish?? Pathetic, I personally think Anderson gets screwed, and should be playing way more.. There is a leadoff guy, but we will never know because Leyland won't play him.

Perhaps it isn't the players, and maybe I should continue to say Leyland is a fraud manager? I actually think he is anyway, but out batting coach sucks too..

Just one minor correction.....Beckett has won two rings ('03 with the Marlins and '07 with the Red Sox). :)

Yep he does win when it counts, and that team has the luxury of going to the playoffs enough to get him a shot to. That has not been the case for us now has it?

Oh yay, we broke up the no hitter...
Yet another QS by our starting pitcher and what can we do for his body of work? 1 hit and 0 runs through 7...

Great support..

I do get what you're saying about Beckett though.

It seems like he's good on odd years and not so good on even years.

This year (obviously an odd year :)) he started out AWFUL in April.

However, in May he was 3-0 with an ERA of a little over 2.50 (he should have been 4-0, but Papelbon blew that game against the Mets).

Now he's starting off June with a solid game, so hopefully it's a pattern.

Actually, if you look over the last 3-4 weeks you would see that Granderson and Thomas and Anderson have been doing the lead off thing.
I have no problem with Thomas or Anderson, both of them get on base and have great SPEED.
Thomas was hitting 3rd when he came up.

As for someone to help Cabrera, thats what Ordonez is suppose to be doing. Also, you forget quickly that the Tigers are missing people Carlos Guillen has been out of the line up as well as Marcus Thames, Thames will be back soon and may provide some protection, but we lose on the defensive side of things that way.

Never helps when you can't get out of the 1st inning with out falling behind.

Talk about a fair weather fan ....
Is there ANYTHING good about this team that you LIKE ?
You talk a good game when they are winning and talk about how bad they are when they are not....
One way or the other, can't have it both ways.

Well I like clete 3rd. Mags if we gotta use his useless ass I would prefer at dh because he dpes not have the arm that thomase does. I would also prefer to bat him 6th at this point. And I do know that helping miggy is his job but he isn't. Guillen is an injury machine. Has been his whole career, and I'm no so sure he is the answer we need. Thames????? Its a right handed larish. All or nothing, and usually nothing.

A fair weather fan? I was a season ticket holder up till this season.I've not watched probably 5 games in the last 5 years. Good or bad. That's a lot time and money invested, I will and can bitch about anything on this team I wish to. I never liked leyland, I did not like the way they condtructed this team. Its old.I mean there are some young guys. If they are gonna get em then play them. If not send them down so they can get xome at bats. Don't call me fair weather, I've invested a lifetime of time to this team.
I can be a fan and not like what I see.

fwiw, the avg age of the current Tigers team is 29, that is NOT too old.

The average age of the players this team is relying, as in mags, polanco, guillen,is really what I was refering to. You know that too, but you want to pick apart everything imsaying.those 3 are appearantly past their prime.

I can pick the oldest three on any team and say the same thing.

Wings are very old if you look at that type of stat, but that would be discounting all the young guys that have contributed the last few years.
Can't do that.

Now we are comparing in shape hickey players to out of shape baseball players?
I too can pick 3 players off of most teams, the difference is the 3 I picked are supposed to be helping the team, and producing in a big way..

Lidstrom is still at the top of his game and the best Dman in teh NHL..Ozzie, same thing, well one of the best Goalies. There is no comparison, hitting a baseball with a round wooden bat is the hardest thing to so in my opinion and at some point you just cant do it anymore, and it appears those 3 have lost the ability..

Look if Mags is playing he is batting lower in the order, because that 3 hole needs to be someone who has pop in the bat and that can actually hit, wether it be Thomas, or we go get someone. We could go back and forth about this for weeks, but I won't change my mind, and you won't change yours..If your happy with this offense, great, I am not and we WILL NOT WIN the division with what we currently have. I am not happy with that, because these pitchers have busted their asses, and have barely gotten run support..Jackson especially.

ANyway, GO Wings.

Where did I say I was happy with the offense ?

Willis needs to control his emotions. The wheels came completely off after hit the first batter and walked the next in the 3rd inning yesterday. I hope Cabrera's hamstring injury isn't serious. We're not hitting well as it is.

OK, who actually PLAYS sports?

Shaq once had a video game of his own- a fighting game!
