I would not say they fought back. The tigers did what they do best in the clutch, they stop pitching strikes. Leyland has to go, he is pathetic..Why take Justin out? Just not getting it.
He was up to 122 pitches, at least he's not on a 100 pitch count like some others, I'm sure they didn't want him to go any higher.
Hog Wash he was still topping 95..He gave a hit and a walk..I say you let him finish or at leat try to finish..He already had one out. He got you that far, give him a chance to get out of it. I am so sick of Leyland..
He got you 13 K's, and a shut out to that point..He got one out, you gotta let him attempt to finish it.. He has thrown 130+ as early as last season, who cares if he had a high pitch count. That is what his arm is supposed to do, throw pitches..
He certainly could not have done any worse.. That was a big big game to lose.
Position in the standings right now is not important to me, I am watching this team try to come together it is not working all at once, and it hasn't yet. 17-16 in first place, not good when you blew two games in a row and at least 5 others that I can think of..
This team is either up or down, never all at once, and until they are, they are going to be a 500 team..That wont win the central.
Thank god our starting pitching has done a good job, #1 in ERA in the AL..
Tigers hit TWO grand slams in one game!
You are correct ...they need to play much better and get it all going at the same time.
And they won't win the division playing like they are , this win 3 lose 4 is killing them.
That said, position in the standing s ARE important to me.
If they were 12 GB at this point instead of 1st place, I think the mood would be much different.
Yeah TV said first time since 1968 and only third time in team history (other was in 1954). In 1968 it was the same guy!
Shapiro: Indians Looking To Improve 'Pen
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [May 16, 2009 at 9:55am CST]
Indians GM Mark Shapiro spoke with the Cleveland Plain Dealer about the Tribe. Here are the highlights:
- Shapiro describes his "sense of urgency" regarding the team's shaky bullpen. He suggests he could look to their minor league teams, to the free agent pool or to other teams' minor leaguers to resotre order in the 'pen. So far they've signed Luis Vizcaino.
- He says he's not looking for a bat or a starter.
- Shapiro wants to contend this year and believes he can, given that the AL Central's relatively weak.
- The Indians can't wait until July to make moves and stabilize the 'pen.
- Shapiro says last offseason he had the chance to deal Rafael Perez for a number of players who now hold starting jobs in the major leagues.
Good to hear the GM is still committed to improving the team's weakness and doesn't want to mail the season in just yet. He's going to have to do more than adding Luis Vizcaino though. Luis made his debut last night and gave up a walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th.
2007 RockiesEven though the Tribe are not lighting the world on fire right now, I have some proof that playing poor baseball in May is not doom for a team's season:
