Detroit goes with Porcello this evening while the Orioles are going with a rookie up from AAA. I like the Tigers odds of winning. :)

0-0 bottom of 5th

The division races are important, but so too are the Wild Card races in which two ballclubs now qualify for the post-season. Detroit is now tied with Baltimore. Here are the last standings:

Tampa Bay 65-54
Detroit 64-55
Baltimore 64-55
Oakland 63-55 (-.5)

We hope they don't have to deal with the EXPANDED WC , Terrible idea Bud .... Now you have teams playing a 1 game playoff to try to continue thier season (needs to be at least 3 if your gonna do it at all.)
Tigers need to WIN the division .... Period.

We're moving into late August...

...and the Tigers are still floundering in 2nd place, 2-games behind the White Sox, and also behind Tampa Bay, Baltimore and Oakland in the Wild Card race. While this team has certainly demonstrated they can beat anybody, they have also shown that they can lose to the worst teams in the league. It has been a very strange year. Anyway, with all the talent on this ballclub...what is it going to take for them to consistently play good baseball for more than a week at a time?

Foot nervously tapping...

Go Tigers!

Yea can't quite figure them out, sanchez on the mound tonight lets see how he does

Fortunately the home stretch of the season will feature lots of games against AL Central teams. If we really are better than them that's when it will show.

I haven't been back for a game yet this year. I came back twice last season and both times Brad "Melon Head" Penny sunk our battleship. However, it would be great to come back for an extended weekend series and see two games at Comerica along with another in Ann Arbor. And it would even better to come back for an ALCS/WS game in October. :)

Busy checking calendar and schedule...

So much for my bright idea of a UM-Tigers weekend trip. Tigers are out-of-town when UM is at home on the 8th and 15th of September. However, UM is playing home games on 13 and 20 October. I can double-dip if the Tigers make it to the ALCS. :)

Regardless, I noticed the Twins are in town Fri-Sun, Sep 21-23 and KC on Mon, 24 Sep. I might do a road-trip if I can get away from the office for a few days. I can't let a summer slip by without seeing a game at Comerica Park, dropping by to visit the remnants of old Tiger Statium or running down the Ambassador Bridge with the Candian authorities hot on my trail. :D

Well, let me just say that with Sanchez on the mound I am hoping Cabera and Fielder both hit a couple of dingers this evening.

Smyly will be pitching Saturday if Fister can't go ...
I'm thinking the Tigers will be cautious with him, knowing that Smyly can step in for him.

THEN, I look for Smyly to take over the spot that Sanchez has at the moment if he continues to pitch poorly.
Didn't pitch bad tonight, but just saying.
